I have a CB Folk Flute, and it's my first flute too. I've been playing low and high whistle and wanted to start with flute, so I bought this beauty from Doc Jones (www.irishflutestore.com) a couple of months ago. It's a very nice flute, the reach is very easy, even when compared with my Burke Viper ...

Hmm... loads perfectly for me. I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.3. I have that version on both my winXP machine at work and my mac at home, and even with javascript and java disabled, the main page of the site crashes the browser. Sorry Doc, you've got a great service and I've enjoyed dealing with you, bu...

This thread is very interesting, I'd like to share my experience with exploding flutes: A cople of weeks ago I made bamboo flute... I drilled the soundholes, shaped the embouchure, put the cork in... and the flute played quite well, I was very happy with it  , then I thought of tempering it.....

Right, the S sounds alone and the H doesn't sound at all.

Well since my primary language is spanish it's kind of difficult for me to write the pronunciation in english, but I'll try... It's something like oo-soo-ah-iah
Almost all sounds are vocal sounds, the only consonant sound is the S.

I'm glad you all liked the photos, thanks for the comments :) Cynth, the maps are fine, that's exactly the place. It's quite close to the Antarctica, and many times you can even see the reflected lights of the ice and snow far away on the sky when looking at south. Patagonia is actually a region, is...

Photos from Ushuaia, Argentina

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some photos from my last trip to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. I really had a great time walking through woods, climbing snow covered mountains and watching the sea from beautiful grassy hills. I also had the chance to spot some wildlife, mostly foxes, rab...

If using a conical bore I'd start by copying an existing flute :)
But I'm interested in any info for calculating toneholes for conical flutes too ;)

If you want to try something a bit more advanced with more info and graphs, you should try Daniel Bingamon's TWCalc http://www.kingsmills.us/twcalc/twcalc.htm
It's a very nice software and it's free :)

I've got my almond oil from a pharmacy too and found it's completely clear and has barely, if any, smell. Didn't found any sediments nor impurities either... Since I have a Burns Folk Flute, I was reading Casey's website and found some flute care instructions, where he says: "Almond oil can be ...

Well, sounds like I'll have to spray some almond essence after oiling to get that nice almond smell I thought I'd get with the oil :) Rubbing the bore with an almond... sounds good too, but I like better the spraying, it's a bit more civilized I guess ;) I'm joking too! Don't worry, nothing wrong is...

Almond oil

Hi! I'm new to flutes, but been playing whistles for a couple of years now. I've bought a Burnes Folk Flute from Doc Jones (irishflutestore), and while I'm waiting for it to arrive I've got some almond oil from a pharmacy. I thought it would smell like almonds but the oil looks completely transparen...

Congrats for your new whistle! I know that feel when you get a new whistle, it's very nice :) I still can't get used to my Burke, every time I play it I think "this really sound nice!"... Now for the OT... 28 cameras!! That's really something! I've just got my new Nikon D50 a couple of day...
