As in most human pursuits, the quest for purity is generally the sign of some psychological malfunction. ~~ And what, pray tell, is that malfunction which is characterised by the quest for purity in psychological function? Its most often manifested in the use of the expression "pray tell".

Internet English. Or Spanglish. Years back I read somewhere that by the year 2010 there would be more Spanish speaking people in the USA than English. Then the internet hit. Which probably has more to do with the number of children Catholic Spanish speakers have, than everybody wanting to learn Spa...

I agree with everything above, except the bit about it not being the most beautiful language for me to speak. A very interesting, recent documentary, on the history of the English language (by Melvin Bragg) reckons more people now learn American English than UK English. At what point will the English start to get 'overruled' in terms of what is, or isn't, considered 'correct English'? The English spoken off...

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary. So, does the language...
