Re: Alternative material for mounts

I have seen marbleous chanter mounts or should that be marbleish. Andreas Rogge had a chanter with the mounts made from synthetic marble ( part of a synthetic marbleish kitchen worktop). It was experimental and may have been made by his assistant Jens. There was a language problem, I speak with a st...

Re: Ebay Items

Not very pleasant walk down memory lane. There are people still living there so I feel sorry for them. After the last big recession of the 70's I lost the best job I ever had. I was a Toolmaker in MECCANO Edge lane. I made the tools that produced MECCANO sets and Dinky toys. I have never worked with...

I'd recommend making a new layer before doing any of these. Select everything (Ctrl-A), copy it all, and paste it all. It should show as a new layer. Leave the bottom layer as a backup in case you goof. Then when you are finished you can delete the old layer. I agree never work on the original phot...

PHOTOSHOP there is a more acurate method. Choose the magnetic lasso tool and carefully select the item to remain coloured. it will show as selected with a dotted line around it. go to Select and choose Inverse, nothing shows but now all of the rest is selected but not the front bit that is to remain...

[/quote] I certainly wasnae earning anything like £20 a week in 65 which would have seemed a vast amount. In 68 my salary as a firefighter was about £14 a week which seemed not bad.I know the average was a lot lower than for a skilled toolmaker.(.anyways why couldnae he make his own set if he was so ...

I was around in 1965 but musically into the Beatles, I'm from Liverpool and knew people who knew John Lennon, my only claim to fame. As an approximation :- A skilled toolmaker earned £20 / week in 65 so the Crowley set was 3-4 weeks wages. A toolmaker today earns about £480 / week and a Rogge set wo...

I spent a short time in Andreas's workshop making a practice set, it was a great experience red wine, German beer, having my jokes translated into German and dutch by Mikko the Japanese piper, all in a 12C German castle. Sounds surreal but it was very pleasant. I think it was Gabriel that put me ont...

A bit daunting but if you pitch your presentation at the one shy person at the back who has never heard the pipes before and your playing has lifted his spirit to new heights and given birth to a life long desire to play music, then the rest can go and be rock stars for all you care. :)

There has been a fair bit of structural damage to buildings and road bridges around here Liverpool NW England. My daughter was one step away from a falling roof slate which could have killed her. I gave up paying for Norton and now use (for over a year now) AVAST and Zonealarm Firewall.

Both of these are completely free to use and I have not had any problems for over a year.

I had to go to a site visit at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, construction of a new extension. I flew up from Manchester UK. My colleague agreed to pick me up at the airport. I stood out side the airport on my mobile looking for him, waving to people in the distance, "is that yo in the red hat"...
