Re: CP: Anak Whistle Wooden Head Full Set!
I bought a Low C whistle direct from Anak Whistles and a high D a little while later from a board member. I've been wanting to do a video clip to show what they sound like and how they handle. That's simply not going to happen right now for lack of time. But the sound clips on their website reflect ...

Re: Do you miss the old days
I joined in 2005. Judging by conversations then, there were still aspects surviving from the "old days." And you could still see recurring conversations, recollections, arguments--including some famous blowups. Things seemed to be in transition even then--major participants leaving, some n...

Re: Killarney brass-bodied whistle review
Nice review and exactly in line with my own opinions. About Sindts, the first time I tried them was when a professional musician on tour with us opened his whistle roll to reveal a row of Sindts in every chromatic key (as I recall, there might have been a gap somewhere) and loaned me one in an odd ...

Re: Killarney brass-bodied whistle review
I bought one of these in the last month, and agree with what you say about it—spot on. Fine whistle at a very good price.
(I’ve appreciated all your reviews through the years. A real help, especially starting out, in determining what whistles to buy or not.)

It will stay in your "Outbox" (if you sent it to them and not to yourself) until the other person finds it in their box and opens it.Tommy wrote:DocTinWhistle wrote: but it remains in my inbox.. i wonder why ??
Hmmmm........ If it is at your in box, you sent it to yourself ?

Re: Anak Whistles anyone?
I’m going to try to get a clip up in a couple weeks. (On break and away from home.)jimhanks wrote:Would love for some of y'all to post your own sound samples of the Anaks. I do like the tone of the official samples.
The clips on the page, to my hearing, are true to the sound of the whistle.

Re: FYI perhaps the pennywhistle is worth a few pennies
Something fishy going on here! One bidder, in a span of 3 minutes, is the only bidder and bids against him/herself going from $1,000 up to almost $2,600...very strange. I suspect the final bidder was friends with the other fool who bid against him/herself and is possibly the seller and the final bi...

Re: FYI perhaps the pennywhistle is worth a few pennies
Astounding. I know my jaw dropped. What about the starting price of $599, though? That seems awfully high all on its own, but I don't know anything about these whistles. The starting price wasn't unreasonable, given what these whistles have been going for on the market. These aren't made anymore, a...

Re: Anak Whistles anyone?
My Anak Low C came today. I've got plenty of Low D's, so I went for the non-traditional key. I"ll try to say more later, with a clip if I can. I'm in the middle of grading finals, so time is not as free as one might like. But a just a word or two. (Forgive in advance my attempt to describe.) Ab...

Re: FYI perhaps the pennywhistle is worth a few pennies
Yes, it's a real bid. I was watching the whistle just to see what it would sell for. When I saw the winning bid being over 2700, I had to look again (three or four times) to be sure I was reading correctly. Astounding.

So I took the leap and ordered one. I’ll report back when it arrives.

Re: Burke Whistles—no more composite
So I emailed Mike and asked. He said he stopped making them three years ago. Very little demand, parts limited, not worth the cost of retooling. He also said that, in his opinion, metal whistles are better and more rugged. And so my questions are answered. (For the record, Mike’s really a decent guy.)

Re: Burke Whistles—no more composite
As to the why, it's hard to imagine that there's much demand for whistles so fragile that they arrive snapped in two. I never had problems shipping back and forth (Low D, A, high D), though I did accidentally step (full weight) on the A and it broke. I like the sound of the Composite Low D more tha...
