Beginner - or want to be a beginner
I recently went to a combined concert with Flook and Mary Kasey. The accordian/concertina player was Niall Vallely. I was not prepared to be impressed. But it happended anyway, and after being literally "wowed" by Flook the hour before. I guess my question is this: Can I, and if yes - how ...

Eager Anticipation
It arrived today. Even though I have tried Paul's Whistles before I never really got a chance to explore them to a decent amount. After 15 mins. on this Whistle I have to say that I really really like it. I may have to buy one. Avery, I await my chance with eager anticipation. Although I was lookin...

Hope Bill Stein sees your post or do a search
Byll - Bill Stein both plays the whistle and runs and owns a recording studio. You might want to do a search on his name and the word microphone. I'm almost sure I saw a post awhile back he did make a recommendation. His group "Gladly Playe Wyth Stryngs" also made recordings. However, I do...

Flook
I hope you make it Cynth. We are in Chicago/Indiana area this week seeing our kids. I am going to try and make their Chicago appearance on Friday. They are simply phenomenal for and of us who love Irish whistles / music.

enthusiasm
Yes- same expereince. I was hoping for more wild enthusiasm. It was more like a chamber orchestra experience than what I thought an Irish "session" might be I guess. From the audience is what I mean. Does that explain? If I get the chance I may go to the Flook concert next Friday in Chicago.

Flook in Kansas
Flook appeared at Kansas State University last night. I've heard their music, had their Rubai disc. Nothing could have prepared me for the pure unbridled intensity of their music. What a performance! What wonderful blending of timbre, tone, showmanship. Brian Finnegan - a "whistle players whist...

O'Brien Whistles
My O'Brien Whistles share the "favorite" spot with my Busmans. I have the 5 piece set and they stay in my car for that "chance moment" playing opportunity. They are my "go to" whistles for well ....... going. They will ride with me on my trip to Chicago next week withou...

Susato
Thanks for the replies. Since posting the topic, I've read more about the Susatos. Is it true that the non-tuneable model (that is, the Dublin) is best avoided? I have no problem with the tuning of the Susato I have. It is the non tunable version. I do not play in sessions as there are none near me...

Susato VSB
The Susato VSB in high D was one of my first whistles. I think it itself is louder than my Generation, Sweetone, Walton, Oak etc. They play nicely in tune and are very "sweet" but I think it is somewhat harder to learn to blow them correctly for new players. At least that was my experience...

Thanks for the tip
Thanks for the tip. I have a Clarke as one of the original whistles I could not play (LOL) - at least that's how I''ll always remember it. I play Busmans and O'Briens for my enjoment most of the time now. But every once in a while I'd get the Clarke out because the other whsitles were put away in an...

Archiving? Fibber McGee's closet
I know - I know - get rid of those old messages fella! I'd like to run archives of my old private messages to my computer. I have messages in my savebox that I'd like to keep for reference on whistles I traded for etc. But I'd like to unclog the ole Chiff server. Is there any way to to send them to ...

Got to think about this. I don't play the Eb bottom on my O'Brien all that much. Got to think about this one.

Nice
Very nice whistle. Frankly typical of the wonderful grained wood Paul uses to such great effect. The things play well too! If I did not just 30 days ago invest in yet another Busman in maple, I'd snap it up in a minute. I need another D whistle like I need another 9 iron (Did I mention I don't play ...

My always in the car: O'Brien
I carry my "fiver" O'Brien set in the car. They are so strong walled I don't have to worry about changes of weather or mis-steps or drops. They stay in the nice tartan bag they came in until used. They are really a great set to carry with you. If I get stuck waiting at the mall, I can go o...
