Looking for a set of Vpipes
Hi all. It's been a long time since I've posted here. I am wondering if anyone has a set of vpipes that they are not using and are willing to sell. I live in a small condo and both my neighbours and my partner are not really thrilled with the soothing sounds of practise. Playing is apparently okay(i...

Re: Animals and piping
Two stories; In the summers I sometimes practice in a small park not far from my place, off in one corner. It's isolated yet near enough a main street and a river that no-one can really hear me. Except for the crows. I'd play a few tunes then stop as we musicians are wont to do and there'd be about ...

WTB: Vpipes
Hey all; I'm going to be spending 6 months in a tent in Northwestern Ontario over this summer and I'm not going to be able to do much in the way of practicing, hence the need for something I can practice on. Does anyone here have a set of Vpipes they would offer for sale? I've contacted the makers b...

http://www.protecmusic.com/items.aspx?ProductID=274&InstrumentID=6&InstrumentGroupID=8&CategoryID=2&SubCategoryID=7 I have one of these and after some minor alterations (I pushed really hard on some spots) it's been great for a D half set. The D chanter sits well in the accessories b...

Congratulations, Uilliam. Personally, I think it's fantastic that you have been awarded this position. It's an honourable position and you should be honoured for it. Reviving old traditions like this is something we could have more of. Do us proud, man. Two thumbs up from across the big water. Mark

Re: Why are there so few female pipers ?
I have noticed that most truly good pipers are green-eyed. Furthermore, I have noticed that most great pipers are only ever photographed in black-and-white. Even further, I have noticed that most pipers are right -handed. Does this mean that pipers who are not right-handed, green-eyed and dead are e...

Re: Thunder Bay Piping
I'm not sure if he is, but I'll try to find out. Thanks for the info. I think I met him briefly several years ago the one and only I went to the Chris Langan weekend. I enjoyed the time I was there but I haven't been able to make it back yet.

Thunder Bay Piping
Hey there all:
I'm working for the summer in Thunder Bay, Ontario (that's Canada for you non-Canadians) and I'm hoping to find a session or two. Does anybody here have any suggestions?

The HBC wasn't very great lakes-focussed; that route was monopolised by Quebecois courier de bois until after the english conquest of Quebec. At the time of the conquest, the Hudson's Bay Company had been trading in the north and northwest via Hudson's Bay for nearly a century. It's the second-olde...

Whu-what? Sorry? Play b with two fingers? Uh, well. I guess I've been told. Tell me, sirs, why pick me out of the madding crowd? What have I done? Really, I mean it's just a little bit too much-- Oh. You uh, you saw that, did you? With the Abercrombie and Fitch saleswoman and everything. Huh. Ahem. ...

Re: Mick O'Brien flat chanter (C or B) ???
Back when I spent some time in Ireland, I became friends with a piper in Dingle named Con Durham. Watching him play several times a week was a real formative influence on me as a beginning piper at the time. Con had this album out called "Champions of Ireland: Uilleann Pipes" which was pa...

Re: Suggestions for Em Air/Lament
I'd like to thank everyone for the suggestions. So..... thanks, folks. The director, in a sharp (but not entirely unexpected about-face) has decided that "March of the High King of Laois" is exactly what he wants. (He heard me warming up with it.) So that's what I'll be playing. Now I have...

Re: Keeping Time When Playing
Jeez guys, just learn to tap your (left) foot while playing! I know some folks had foot tapping caned out of them at a tender age, but lots of great musicians do it. Personally I think it's better than a metronome, since the aim is "good" or "steady" rhythm - which is not quite ...
