Re: Walden
To hear this news makes me sad. Walden held a very special place on Chiff & Fipple. Reading the tributes here, and especially Dale's, made me think what legacy I left behind when I successfully completed my twelve-step program to quit the chiffboard. Certainly not a legacy of unmitigated kindnes...

Re: Lock this if you like.
Obviously 'traditional' perspectives are bound to be suspect in the information age. Why? Why any more so than in the space age or the jet age or the jazz age or the steam train age? Perhaps because in non-information ages, you had to be where the handing-down happened, you had to be part of the tr...

Diligent mods? Reasonable? Ha.
I'll never forgive Nano for banning me, just because of the traditional noodle incident. And it wasn't even my fault.

Re: Playing by ear
Be careful that you don't allow your ears to just be influenced by what is convenient. I listened to a few clips on that site and I wouldn't cite them as a good source for learning to play Irish music; the playing style doesn't sound very Irish to my ear. I don't know who the players are or if they...

Re: Interesting whistle mouthpiece build
According to the pics on the linked site the edge of the blade will be aligned with the top of the windway (vertically, in a cross section), which won't work well (or only work if overblowing). Typically the edge of the blade is aligned halfway between the top and the bottom of the windway, or sligh...

Re: Tin Whistles in Schools & School Tin Whistle Bands
Bill, this is awesome, and a great idea at the right time. All the best for this project, and I hope you'll get some good responses. Let me know if I can help.
I remember seeing the tin whistle marching band clips at your place some time ago, what joy.

Re: Hallelujah is the new black
Judy Collins covered Suzanne and also The Song Of Isaac, which begins: 'The door it opened slowly And my father he came in. I was nine years old. And he stood so high above me And his blue eyes they were shining And his voice was very cold. He said: 'I've had a vision And you know I'm strong and ho...

Re: F# roll
I know you've said this before and I'm glad you brought it up again, because I was looking for it. What is it about cuts that make them better to use on the beat (and taps better off the beat)? Is it the sound of the cut that matters in that position or something psychological about the technique t...
