Re: Regulator Staples

I think when horror-writer Stephen King chooses regulators as the subject matter for one of his tomes, the uilleann piping fraternity should not be too surprised. I spotted this in a Dublin bookstore recently: http://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/935266_360725040695611_1974755923_n.jpg (I m...

Re: THE GREAT UILLEANN YOU-TUBE THREAD.

The great Heather Clarke had a spin on a half set of pipes I made recently while we were practicing to play for the wedding of mutual friends last weekend. You can check out Heather playing The Hag at the Spinning Wheel here: http://ceolpipes.com/audio-video.

Re: ennis ornament

As Kevin says, the rate of vibrato required to produce the effect is too quick to be done by simply wiggling the index finger. My understanding of the process in slow motion is as follows: You need to shake your forearm rapidly, through a tiny angle, back and forth (out and back from your body). Thi...

Re: Fleadh 2009 - Tullamore

The winner was a young Italian guy who lives in Limerick and who's name escapes me (Martemo?)- he played really well on a full Froment set- lots of nice reg work throughout. He was sporting at least 2 ear-rings more than Willie Clancy ever wore  Joey Abarta played with a lovely, controlled sty...

Re: The Only Good Policeman is a .... one

Uilliam- You have made my day! I read the article about piping Gardai and the name Sean O'Leary jumped out at me. I have been trying to find out about this man for years. Until now all I knew about him was that he had a set of pipes made for him by Willie Rowsome in 1924, and that in 1928 he came se...

Re: Alternative material for mounts

More than 10 years ago I had a spin on an aluminium chanter that had been made (I think) by Des Seery. Apparently it took a large toll on his reamers and was therefore a once off experiment. It played well and sounded fine- bright and metallic as you would expect. At the time it was in the possessio...

Scoil Acla 2008- Piping School

For anyone looking for a good piping school over the Summer I would recommend the under-publicised Scoil Acla which takes place on Achill Island, Co. Mayo from July 28th until august 3rd. The teachers are Robbie Hannan and Tommy Keane. For more details you can check out the Scoil Acla website: http:...

There is a reel called "The nine pint coggie" that I learned from Sean Og Potts. Sean said a "coggie" is a drinking vessel, and a nine pint coggie is a large drinking vessel.

"Coggie" isn't a million miles from "Cook".
