Brewerpaul is exactly correct. This is the best method. By practicing very slowly, we eliminate mistakes, build up a solid technique, which in turn, goes into our muscle memory. Using this method encourages the best results. As my bagpipe instructor Ian McClellan told me years ago, "Practice SL...

The title is Caoineadh Cu Chulainn (Lament) by Bill Whelan from Riverdance. It is played by Davy Spillane.

Get a Humphrey E Flat. Nice traditional sound, very easy to play and

easy to control. I just played mine Sunday at a Celtic Mass along with

Gary's D, C and B whistles. Super whistles.

Don't forget Gary Humphrey....he makes a VERY nice whistle with a

nice traditional sound. His whistles feel great in the hands and are very

easy to control. If you haven't played one of Gary's whistles, you are

missing out on a fine instrument.

Paul Busman comes immediately to mind as does Fred Rose. They both

make beautiful wood whistles.

As for something lying around the house, try vinegar and salt made into a paste, clean the whistle with this solution then rinse it off and buff with a soft cloth. You can look up "Cleaning brass" on the net to find the correct proportions of vinegar and salt to use for this. Of course Bra...

Thanks for the response Aanvil. I am going to try the hot water method (I think) Replacing this whistle would be a problem though. Waltons discontinued this particular whistle. It has a very nice traditional sound. Just thought that I would explore the possibilities with this type of whistle body. I...

Thanks for the replys. But.....Removing the mouthpiece WITHOUT damaging either the mouthpiece itself OR the whistle body......that's what the challenge is. My goal is to remove the original mouthpiece, to try a different mouthpiece, and then replace the original...... Thanks! -James A Stor Mo Chroi ...

Removing mouthpieces from inexpensive whistles HELP!

Question: What is the best method for removing the mouthpiece (plastic) from the body of a thin walled aluminum whistle without damaging any part of the mouthpiece itself or the whistle body? I would appreciate any comments/suggestions. Thank you!

How do you care for your brass whistles?

I am a bit curious as to how others care for their brass whistles. Do you just let them acquire a patina, or do you keep them polished with Brasso or something else? I would appreciate any thoughts/comments on this. Also, does anyone use any steel wool or another buffing agent on their whistles? Tha...
