I own a narrow bore alluminum. It's a nice whistle, but I wish I had gotten it in session bore. It just feels too small. But then I'm accostumed to playing either conical, large bore, or thick walled whistles. It feels about the same size as a feadog that I own. If it were a little larger, I'ld prob...

Re: Filler Whistle?

I have taken the step from closet whistler to playing with the church band. I ordered a Tully Whistle a couple of months ago and should receive it early 2007. In the meantime, my beloved generation whistles aren't quite up to the job, so I'm thinking of getting a Susuto Soprano in D to use until my...

The Foggy Dew is a nice 'haunting' tune when slowed down a little. And the words to its older version "The Foggy, Foggy Dew" are romantic (in a dark sort of way).

Carbon Leaf is great. I hate that I missed their recent show in Richmond. Maybe I'll be able to catch their Va Beach show in August.

Maybe you aren't like this, but on some whistles, every time I play them, they seem worse because I get better playing on a good whistle, and I feel that when I play a lesser quality whistle, it holds me back. I also have off days when I play most whistles, but I can't ever remember having an off d...

Why the assumption that Mia's child would want to learn Irish music? There are plenty of teaching resources which are much easier starting places than Brother Steve's site which would get a child started playing familiar tunes drawn from all over the place. Whistle fits in many folk musics, whether...

In my beginner’s opinion, Sweetone is an excellent beginners whistle. It's not my favorite sounding but it's one of the easiest players.

You're welcome Josh. I'm always happy to try to help. Just be advised, you know those people that I mentioned who know what they are talking about? Well, I'm not one of them. :) I'm pretty new to this myself. However, I would like to second some of the advice that some others have given you. Like Go...

Well, technically, I guess it's not really a part of his site anymore than it belongs to any of the other contributors. I just tend to think of it as a whole because they are hosted by the same domain. :) No offense intended to the other contributors. :)

* What was your first whistle? Waltons MellowD * How did you acquire it? (Recommendation, whim purchase, researched purchase, gift) Heard the singer of Carbon Lief (an Appilachian inspired rock band out of Richmond, VA) play one at a concert and thought liked the sound. Found out what it was, and or...

Hi Josh! If you're looking for advice then you came to the right place. The vast majority of people here are extremely helpful. Some even know what they are talking about too. At any rate here's what I would suggest. 1. Have fun. Unless you're a professional musician, that's probably why you a...
