I think that boat has sailed for me. I might give the little black D a try if I ever run across one, but I don't see buying another mellow D.

Maybe that's the real issue. Though I suspect the "frustrated whistle maker" scenario is more likely.

Wanderer keep up the good work.

My Burke DAN and a self-tweaked Clarke Original are the only high D's I own that I would really miss. If I were going to pick a third on just reputation and looks I guess it would have to be either a Copeland or the new Sweetheart Pro.

Re: Best Low D Whistle???????

Hi Am considering buying a low D whistle...Just wondering what is the best one on the market regardless of price? The best on the market is the Entropy Low D. Good thing cost is not a factor though, they sell for around $500,000.00 US. Just disregard the Dixon label. Seriously, it depends on ...

I've got a Susatos VSB nontunable and a Clarke Sweetone in the car. They also tend to be my travel whistles.

What's the deal with the sudden rash of "maker A" is copying "maker B" posts? It's a whistle. It's been around for thousands of years. It has holes and a fipple. If it's made well, it's keyed to a certain scale. There are only so many style variations that can be made.

Macoco, I own a Dixon Low D and can vouch for their ease of play. I chose the Dixon based on recommendations from here. Dale reviewed it as one of the best beginner Low D's available, and other's have commented on the boards favorably about his whistles. As for the High D, I would also encourage you...

I guess it really depends on what you are looking to get out of the whistle. Of the ones you mentioned, I've had varying levels of experience with Clarke, Feadog, and Walton's. The Clarke Sweetone is easiest to play IMO. The Clarke original is my favorite sounding cheapie. The Feadog I just bought t...

It sounds like something that I had when I was a kid. I bought it from a toy store in Williamsburg, VA. That was 20-25 years ago, but there is a very similar store in the same area (Merchants Square). I beleive it was called the Toymaker of Williamsburg. I know it's not much, but it's something.

Thanks! I'm planning to spend a weekend in Va Beach sometime in June. Maybe I'll take that Monday off and stay an extra night so I can check it out.

Namtrag, where in SE VA do they hold sessions and when? I live in NE NC, just accross the border off of I-95. The only sessions I've heard of in NC are two or more hours away and are held in the middle of the week.

It is. I just order The Best of Silly Wizard from Amazon a few weeks ago.

A black tipped D aluminum narrow bore. It really is the best whistle I've played, and I'm finally getting used to a cylindrical bore again. But like I said, Clarke just has some intangible quality that appeals to me.
