Louder low Ds?
What do people consider to be the louder low Ds? I'm thinking of something that I might be able to play with a congregation of maybe 100-150 people singing and have it still be heard. Am I dreaming? I love Hoover's whistles, but assume his low D (e.g. the whitecap AL) would be too quiet. How is the ...

Modifying cane low D?
I have a cane low D which I bought based on Dale's review. Hmm. Now I think he praised the whistle merely because it played at all! It does play, but I have to blow so lightly that it makes my Hoover narrow high D seem air-hungry in comparison! The whistle is almost too cheap to send back, and...

Chiffboard hangover?
The few times I've stayed up to read and post on this board I've regretted it in the morning. Maybe it would have helped if I had taken a drink while reading. Any suggestions for the perfect chiffboard beverage? Also, UPS lost the new Avatar I ordered and I'm too embarrassed to be seen with ...

Re: Ok. Which one of you is this story about?
Oh, well then, that makes me feel much better. :roll:The 52-year-old...told police he was not actually blowing the instrument.
"He said he was just practicing fingerings," said Bohnert.

The long now foundation
What's interesting to me is the idea of what's a short or long period of time. Yes, and there's a group of people advocating the use of five-digit years starting, well, in the year 01996: http://www.longnow.org/ If they can make any impact on the "it'll be someone else's problem after I'm out ...

Overton Bass G!
Thanks for all the great answers! I wish I had the time, tools, and talent to roll my own foghorn whistle. However, I just noticed on the Overton page, they list prices for whistles as low as "Bass G." :o Okay, it's not as low as the Burke Bass D, but what amazes me is that it's listed as ...

But wait, there's nothing
If you listen real closely to the original recording of John Cage's 4'33" backwards, starting at 2'16.5", immediately following the Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffin Recipe co-narrated by Salman Rushdie and Elvis, you'll hear it. Spooky, huh?I want to hear that part of the offer.

Sub-Contrabass Whistle Profundo
Just a question: has anyone made a really, REALLY low whistle? I'm thinking of something very long, probably mitered, made out of PVC drain pipe, and with holes so big you'd need garden gloves with rubber disks glued on them to play. Or, I suppose it could be keyed. C'mon, I'm serious! What's...
