Re: Keeping the reeds in playing condition for years? Tips?

For the last months I've kept my chanter with reed, and drones and extra reeds in a sealed plastic case with a soaked sponge and a digital hygrometer to monitor the humidity. Works like a charm and when I play the pipes or go for a gig or session I put a soaked sponge into the bellows. I attach a st...

Re: Chromatic keys - How do they work?

One thing about notebending though.
I have only the Cnat and Fnat keys and I find the Fnat key very effective in bending the note by opening the key slowly and closing it slowly as well.

Re: Advice, how do you fix a flat back high D?

Push the reed further into the throat of the chanter and rush the chanter with wire up to the back D to flatten the notes below the back D.

Re: Humidifier Recommendations?

Use a plastic case with nothing but the pipes in it. That is no towels or cloth to wrap the pipes in.
Put in a soaked sponge and seal the case between playing sessions. This keeps me going.

Re: Congratulations, Brian McNamara

My son Nils-Gunnar is just 1 year old and he's a handful.
He really likes the pipes though, especially hanging onto the drones and tugging at the regs... :)
I will tell him why his hearing was impaired when he gets older..

Re: Chanter for sale

Is it reeded with cane or elder? as I recall you'd prefer elder reeds.

FS GHB Practice Chanter

I'm selling my "ROS" GHB practice chanter in African Blackwood and Delrin top (to minimize cracking) and silver ferrules. It's just lying around since I've been playing the uilleann pipes for the last 10 years. It's in mint condition and a new woul cost 2500 Swedish Krona = 300$US. I'll se...

Is that the same Drew I bumped into at the Crane bar in Galway town 2006? A piper who lived in Galway at that time? just curious.

Buying a new reed

My reed in my S. Gallagher D-chanter is behaving very funny and have a real weak D. after trying and trying to get it in working order I don't see any other solution then cutting the lips, but, since this is the only reed I have to this chanter I don't want to do this before I've got a new working r...

You will be very sorry if you don't go for Seths drones. Easily tuned, powerful sound and they will match your chanter. I platy on a Gallagher set myself and wouldnt think of getting another set...

Re: Custom Taxes and VAT for set from US

I went to New York in 2005 to pick up my Gallagher set. Never intended to go to N.Y. but as this option was way cheaper than shipping them over because of heavy taxes, it was an easy choice. By the way, I got to see the big apple!!!

Re: Keeping the pipes warm

I'd say just relax but take your time leaving the pipes to get warmed up before you play them and don't make any adjustments. Living in Sweden myself and winters can get seriously cold here as well. Problem is as I learned not the cold nor dryness but the sudden changes in weather when it goes from ...
