Use chanter as bombarde?

I wonder if you could take off the top of the bag pipe chanter, exposing its reed, and this would approximate the sound of the bombarde? I have seen others put their lips at the reed base, and sound will come out.

Anyone tried this?

Woo Hoo, my Busman arrived!

My olivewood Busman arrived! It is beautiful in olivewood. Perfectly tuned and easy in the second octave. Workmanship is great. Paul is a real gem to deal with. Very prompt. I have never met him.

Lyrics for English ballads?

Can someone point me to a good source (online or published) of tunes and lyrics for English ballads? (Elizabethan and Ren eras mostly). Is there some equivalent to O'Neil's?

I saw my first sessions on Saturday at Irish Fest at about 4pm. With 25 or so musicians, there were only 3 whistles, Copeland, and 2 of wood. Boy, were there a lot of violins! Do sessions ratios tend to be like that?

Have others experienced a flat D in the second octave when using OXX-XXX? How do you get a brighter D, just by blowing harder? Can the barrel be shortened, or will that make all the notes higher?
