Re: Mandolin tuning

I just got a mandolin. Do I tune it like a violin?
Yes, GG-DD-aa-ee from lowest to highest. (I think on the piano, the designation would be g-d'-a'-e" or G3-D4-A4-E5)

You could tune it differently, but that's the standard.

Roger Sherlock on emusic

Just a heads up...

Two Sean McGuire albums (At His Best and The Very Best Of) with Roger Sherlock and Josephine Keegan are available at emusic.

I've wanted to hear this music for many years; nice to see it made so easily available.

Re: You've heard it before but...

I even ran the idea past Mrs Buddhu and she said "do it" so really, I have no choice. Birthday is coming up in May. I reckon I know what I'm gonna buy myself. What a fine, supportive wife you have. When you buy your birthday present, you should think about buying a present for her as well...

Lovely indeed -- spectacular even.

Excuse my ignorance, but what's the purpose for the wide silver band on the lower middle joint of the RR?

Let your left hand do a lot of the work of keeping the whistle airborne, and as an exercise, practice deliberately releasing your whole right hand from contact with the whistle when your playing G, A or B. I was just watching one of the McGoldrick clips from the Kerrywhistles site, and was amazed a...

It should be a good weekend, God willing. I'll be celebrating the Maulid with some Sufi beloveds, and my family's closest friends in the neighborhood are Guyanese Hindus so we've been invited to Holi (they call it Phagwa) and then there'll be Easter egg hunting and kite-flying (a Guyanese Easter tra...

Quebecois harmonica player passes

I saw an obit for Quebecois harmonica player Gabriel Labbé on HARP-L today. I'd never heard of him before but there was a link to some youtube vids of him and he was quite a fine player indeed.

RIP.
