I don't own any wooden whistles. (Though I do have a couple of O'Riordan metal whistles and a ton of PVC Water Weasels.) Last week I got the chance to try Thin Weasel D and C whistles for a while. Perhaps it's just my Water Weasel experience, but I had absolutely no trouble with the whistles being h...

I learned the tune the same time Laura did, in Nancy Kerr's class in Goderich. Tell her I said hi.

What follows (assuming I can paste ABC successfully) is all the notes, but with the rhythms straight. The tune is a 3-2 hornpipe, and certain bars have dotted eight-sixteenth-eighth rhythms. I've made an MP3, I'll post it as soon as I figure out how. X:1 T:Rusty Gulley L:1/8 M:3/4 R:3-2 Hornpipe K:G...

I've got it in my head. Give me a few and I'll try to generate an ABC.

If you're playing in a D session, the Bb whistle is useless. The A whistle is really handy for a couple of tunes ("Pull Out the Knife and Stick Her Again" in E minor comes to mind) and fun to use on many more. It's also a great way to practice playing in a different key signature while sti...

Did Lunasa ever use the Grinter's in live performances? Every time I've seen them, their low whistles were made of metal.

Paddy Keenan, on the other hand, did use a Grinter low F when he played in Ann Arbor on Tuesday. Great sound.

My WWC is my least favorite Weasel. It's kind of muffled sounding. I use the D all the time, but Bb, A, and G are my favorites.

Subject line pretty much says it all. I've been wondering about this for a while, but I've just discovered my A smells like it spent too long in a smoky pub.

The PVC body ought to be, I reckon, but I wonder about the glue in the head. Does anyone know for sure?

Grannymouse -- out here in Ann Arbor, the norm is three or four whistlers playing at once in a session. Usually with a similar number of fiddlers and a few miscellaneous instruments thrown in. When the sessions degenerate at the end of the night, it's not unusual for the session to be JUST three whi...

Glenn's version of Barbara Allen is from Paddy Keenan's self-titled 1975 album. I've heard him play that, and maybe one or two other whistle tunes, but never heard him pull out melodeon. You guys are lucky.

Were Sherry and Rachel there? I keep on meaning to come to a Kildare House session...

The plague interpretation of "Ring Around the Rosie" is actually an urban legand. See
