Good luck with that. Only once in my eight years of piping have I managed to get it in tune. However as a result I got a very, very flat high E. It seems to depend on the read, thats the long and short of it.

Re: Tips for Colonel Fraser
Its a nice tune, but it can be completely destroyed by speed and to much ornamentations. Applying the KISS principle would be your best bet especially when learning different variations of the tune. Depends on which version you play but I play the one in the Clark tutor. Try experimenting with legat...

Re: Masons Apron - Matt Molloy, Dubliners and Sean McGuire versi
Hey Guys the music transcription would be most helpful (as I can follow along to the music). Although different versions of the same tune can be just as helpful.

Masons Apron - Matt Molloy, Dubliners and Sean McGuire versi
Hey Guys, is there anywhere on the internet that has the famed Molloy, McGuire version of the Masons Apron. There are plenty versions of the tune online but not one that Molloy and McGuire play.
Thanks, L42B

Re: Regulator Reeds - Info
Hey...its not a problem with the chanter or drones. Both are bang on and the chanter has no tape or rushes in the bore of the chanter. What seems to cause the problem on the regulators is on the Tenor regulator the B note sinks and is very hard to blow. On the baritone regulator the reed has a tende...

Regulator Reeds - Info
Hey Guys, I've been playing the pipes for quite a few years now. However I still struggle to keep the regulators in tune. I certainly know how to go about tuning the pipes with 'basic' to not so advanced tweaking. But I haven't learn't much about more 'advanced' regulator tuning techniques. I've fou...

Re: Assistance Required - Teaching Resources
Hey Mike, well as for music scales, the orphanage does have access to keyboard and guitars. So I'd assume that some would have knowledge of the more western style scale. But I have no idea what peoples musical abilities are, or how many would be interested. I will have to wait until I get there. In ...

Thanks for the reply. All are good options. I have dealt with Mitch in the past, and I have found him to be very reliable, the same with Jerry Freeman. Though I'm more likely to deal with Mitch as he's already in Australia and hopefully the turn around time would be less. It'll boil down to cost in ...

Assistance Required - Teaching Resources
Hey Guys, in January 2010 I will be volunteering with a group of 13 university students from Australia in a Cambodian orphanage. I have been asked by the group to help lead the music program. As such I'm firstly looking for a batch of about 20 decent whistles that I can take over for the kids. What ...

Youtube - Leo Rowsome Clips?
Hey Guys, as Leo Rowsome is one of the powerhouses of the old gentlemen pipers how come there aren't many historical videos of Leo playing the pipes? Surely he was at the hight of his career during the folk revival and television in Ireland so why is it that there aren't any more clips of him playin...

Re: Interesting Find: Old Irish Flute
Some of the not so expensive models of Blackman where not marked. Terry did mention this. Terry is very certain that the instrument was made sometime between 1810-1830 or 'round about's. The only way we will be able to tell for certain is the measurements of the flute and then Terry can make a more ...

Re: Interesting Find: Old Irish Flute
Well, I spoke to Terry McGee on the phone just then. He believes that it is a Blackman flute, probably in Bb or in F. Which probably puts this instrument at 150 years old or so. As Gabriel stated the instrument is a band flute. I'm curious if we could trace its history somehow. But I highly doubt it...

Re: Interesting Find: Old Irish Whistle
Thanks Gabriel, would you know of any good makers who I could send it to, so that they could look at it and repair it? Especially if they are interested in older flutes.
