Thanks Jim. Heheh, they may be low brow, but in my experience they personify Irish humour. I had a great time. Didn't realize how man rain can drive you, even in the "sunny southeast", I really didn't mind the snow and below freezing temperatures here in Ottawa this winter. Travelled alot,...

They do in the major towns/cities. Not so much in small town Ireland (I was in a town called Tramore). Wifi was kicking up though just as I was leaving, in fact Ireland is pretty plugged in comparatively speaking.

Sure they do, it just usually involves climbing to the top of very high buildings and waving your laptop around until you find a signal (by YOUR laptop, I mean the laptop your cousin Donal says fell off the back of a truck). I was pretty much internetless while there unless I was willing to fight fo...

Back at it

Hi folks, Not sure if anyone remembers me, but I used to be active but stopped posting while I was living in lovely Country Waterford for the past year and a bit. Anyways, it looks like it might be a quiet summer so I'm hoping to get the old whistle and flute again and see if I can pick up where I l...

Worked until 11, then came home and got Hockey Night in Canada on satelite. Got a pizza (quite an adventure trying to keep it safe from the drunken hordes that clogged the streets of Tramote) and went back to watch the Canadiens/Leafs game with my pie and a Guinness. It was great. Strangely quiet ou...

Some years back, I spend several weeks in Germany courtesy of the military and was impressed with the rail system. On a day off, we would take a train somewhere interesting, spend the day playing tourist and be back by bedtime. Is Ireland's public transportation system in the same class? I'm thinki...

Careful with the guide books now. Mark your route then rip the map out. Then again, note all the pubs in the book and make sure you miss every single one of them, they'll be packed with every Australian backpacker on the island. I just don't have the time for Lonely Planet, because of their inconsis...

I talked to a couple from London the other day who had just returned from a vacation to Montreal. They were hoping to see a winter wonderland complete with snowball fights. They were more than a tad disappointed when they got off the plane dressed up like a HAZMAT team to discover a green and pretty...

No...they're celebrating Epiphany. That's when many children in Hispanic countries receive their gifts (from the Three Kings, though, not from Santa Claus). Redwolf Ah. Gotcha. When I asked my boss how his vacation in Barcelona was going he said "Sh*te. It's Christmas and everything is closed....

Aye, it was in my paper this morning. Bit of a shame the Government Offices didn't speak it - since it's a Civil Service requirement. But as for starting the journey in Dublin - where much of the population will barely listen to you if you speak English - you can only say "predictable". I...

I always find the Irish reaction to Irish kind of interesting. Among the young set, the language always seems to result in much eye rolling, groaning and teasing. Just yesterday on the bus back from town I sat next to some fellas that were having a good laugh mocking the Irish translation on one of ...

Beautiful pictures. Wish I could make it out to Skye, but time constraints being what they are, it wasn't much of an option. Some other time.

Funny enough, I'll be in Paris for the start of the 6 Nations... is the Italy match in France or Italy on the 4th?
Thanks for the advice, that is what I was leaning towards. How does this tour look to you?
