I've seen them a couple of times and they are very good (and one of my personal favorite bands). Lots of energy and Oisin is a fantastic fiddle player, though they're all good musicians. I haven't seen them since they got a new flutist. Don't miss them if they play near you.

I support the idea of making a flute more ergonimcally sound. I'm an industrial designer and human factors are a concern of my job. If a slight change like offsetting a hole can make the flute less stressful on the hands, then it's a good improvement. Human-made objects should conform to humans as w...

I enjoy cranking out Lark in the Morning at high speed. Four parts to it, but surprisingly easy to learn.

I heard a story that Christie Moore was playing a solo concert where the audience was clapping along. He got fed up and said something to the effect of "If I wanted a f*cking percussion section, I would have brought one!". Not a shocker, considering his charming personality.

Wow, the movie looks interesting, though the site doesn't give much info on it. I take it it's a documentary? Can't imagine the number of rain delays they must experience!

I hear tunes (not always trad) in my head all the time. I try to get myself to hear the tune in my head while I'm playing it as well.

Sometimes, if the tune is from a cd, I will play that tune all the way through in my head, then the next tune on the cd will cue up!!!

My favorite track is the Loophead set. Partly because of memories of driving out to the lighthouse there (if you're ever on the coast of Clare and the Cliffs are mobbed, head out to Loophead). 'Dingle Berries' is a good one as well, and not just for the silly title.

I just saw them saturday night. They were fatastic!. I bought the new cd and like it a lot. I like 'Kinnity Sessions' better, though. Their music is certainly well arranged. They're all such great musicians, I don't think they could do it any other way! I love Lunasa, but I do prefer a less refined ...

IMO, there is much value in playing for dancers. It's very good for your meter, your tempo, your pacing, and how you shape a tune. Most of the things we play are dance tunes, after all. And if you really want to push yourself, play solo for dancers. There's an experience, especially on something li...

lol! No, this is very good slow session. Though sometimes someone might start a tune a little too fast, and the leader will try in vain to slow it down (try slowing down 30 people that are cranking out Lark in the Morning!). It's o.k. to push a tune once in a while, even at a slow session.

I took a big step the other day

I brought my flute to the local slow session for the first time. Damn, that thing is loud!

It's the most fun I've ever had at that session. I'm so happy to be playing the flute!

I'm trying not to get too specific, because there could be people here who go to that session, and I don't want to offend! But there are other wierd practices there. I'll leave it up to your imagination...
