Re: Mystery B set on uilleannobsession

Your missing the point. Mick Wilkins did NOT make these pipes. If he had made them i would have sold them as such. Other than he has my Rowsome set I have nothing against the man. His work is good. What is so wrong in not knowing the maker, surly it reduces the price. All i know is that they are a g...

Re: Mystery B set on uilleannobsession

Yes this is Mick Wilkins, and they definitely look like my B set. Mick did some work on these for me in the 80's. He made all new imitation ivory mounts, silver soldered and sprung some regulator keys, he put new regulator pads on and and some other bits and bobs and fully reeded the set. He also su...

Re: Mystery B set on uilleannobsession

I am certain that these arn't either Coyne or Kenna and i never said they were. However they are fairly old and have been in my family now for three generations. What I actually said was that the consensus was that they were in the style of Coyne. Which is why I Put Maker Unknown They were played by...

Re: MICHAEL KEENAN OF SHERCOCK, 1895-1979

Yes I remember him with great affection. I was apprenticed to him in 1976 and lived with him for a while. Somewhere I should still have an old cassette tape of him playing and singing and some pictures if I can find them. At the time I was there, he was still actively making pipes and riding his bik...

Howard Half set for sale

Due to a change in circumstances I am having to sell my Howard half set. They are made in ebony and silver and play beutifully but unfortunately I now need to raise some money, so they have to go. I thought I'd offer them on here first cos I need to know they are going to a good home. Anyone interes...

The chanter is South American Rosewood, I'm not sure what any of the rest is. It is a very attractive and nicely made set - more attractive than the Howard set I had for a while. I have to say that I've never seen an unattractive Howard set. Like most professional musical instrument makers, his pip...

Re: Is Mr.Hunter still making pipes?

I disagree, Peters pipes design were from many sources, I know for sure that Harrington and Coyne were a big influence, and if it were so, Hunter pipes would sound like B Howards stuff, and they don't. Fair comment Alan but the sets in concert D I've heard did sound like Howard. I suppose reeding m...

Re: Is Mr.Hunter still making pipes?

Somebody knows if Mr.Peter Hunter is taking order for a set of pipes? Or somone has his set for sale? Seriously thinking of getting his set. Makoto If you are unable to contact Peter Hunter, try Brian Howard. Peter's pipes are based on the Howard design. He had the sister set Howard made for Finbar...
