Re: It's Back - Flenz Flute

Before putting too much moisture in that flute, I'd oil her down quite well inside and out, let it sit a while, then oil it again if I has sat around and dried out for 100 years or so. It may tighten up the tone a bit too! There's probably a reason it was re-listed. Those tiny bored old German flute...

Re: Four D Piccolos

Hey guys, sorry I've been away.... Doug, I want to say thanks. You always provide good and valuable info. (even on the variables of bamboo flutes!) Sillydill, you are one dedicated picco-loco. I like #3. The Windsong bamboo interestingly, is by a guy named Rob Yard, who taught both Olwell and I bamb...

Some of flutemaker's personal collection for sale

Hi guys and gals, I have a set of flutes from my personal collection I'm giving up simply to make some extra Christmas cash. As a bamboo flute maker, most of these are flutes I've kept back to use as models and to copy, play and record with (I usually keep two or three back for a time of my favorite...

I like boxwood if you can get it. Very light and easy on the hands and arms but a hard wood that can have some nice grain patterns also.

Hi Jim (and all), Thanks for the favorable review. Glad you're enjoying the Bb fife. One comment I'd like to make on the beveling (or lack thereof) of the ends on this particular flute if I may... it was a conscious decision on my part. Bamboo varies greatly, even within a particular species, as reg...

Hi folks, thought I'd add a few photos from my own collection... some great photos here by the way... (the one with the most flutes wins?) First off... http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/9264/aut0016mv1.jpg The center 5 are D flutes, from left to right, an unknown German (I think) flute that needs k...

Hi Michael, Yep, still at it, though (hopefully) they have improved a bit since then :) I had a chance to hang out a bit with Patrick Olwell this fall and talk shop at the National Folk Festival in Richmond, VA. (We were both exhibiting there) He was kind enough to invite me to visit his shop later....

Help wanted in Flute shop at Chicago area Renaissance Faire

I'm looking for someone (or two) to help out at my show at the Bristol Renaissance Faire (Chicago/Milwaukee area) this summer, weekends, July through August. You don't have to be a virtuoso, (actually, I scare beginners away if I show off too much) just able to get a good tone, and be able to help f...

New batch of flutes (with video!) ready.

Hi all, I know it's been a while since I last posted. Been very busy (no flute making but bamboo harvesting this past winter). I just wanted folks to know I just finished a set of flutes (high quality tuned bamboo) for Doc over at the Irish flute store if anyone's interested. A few low Bb's as well ...

Re: Insane but it seals: pad solution

[quote="Jon C."] For Purse pads I use the tree fiber from a flowering tree that grows in front of my shop, the tree has giant seed pods that spew out this wool like fiber. I stuff that in kid leather, and glue it. It makes little pillows, that I glue on with shellac. Lots of fun, if you do...

Boy, those Matit flutes are strange lookin'. Reminds me of a WX7 midi wind controller or something. Not my cup o' tea. But a lot of interesting ideas there. I like the magnet idea. It's interesting to note what Matti says on his website: "Then I acquired a cheap Irish transverse tinpipe and bec...
