I never could tweak out the buzz in my Oak either... and I'm a fairly experienced whistle tweaker.
Put another brand mouthpiece on the pretty nickel plated Oak body and you'll have yourself a nice whistle.

Walton's Little Black Whistles do have a bit of a rough edge to their tone. I generally don't play slow tunes with my Little Black, but those chiffy overtones sound great in faster tunes. Like Generations, Little Black's require a fair amount of breath control to really bring out their full potentia...

At long last, the paperback version of Glenn's book is now available.

I'll agree with Mike about the Clarkes. If you're going to get one, make it a Sweetone. I too prefer Waltons over Clarkes, especially the C whistles. Generations are very nice... if you can find a good one. It is definitely best to play a few Generations and pick out the best one... if you can find ...

I would highly recommend you contacting Glenn Schultz.
Glenn is a great guy, and he is happy to share information on whistle making.
Who better to learn from than a master of the craft?

Anyone know how to say "blow me" in irish?
I'd like to know that one myself... it would be funny to engrave it on a whistle.

The Irish wouldn't say 'smooch my bum' but
'kiss my arse!'
Which would be translated "pogue mahone" in Gaelic, right Steve?

That's an easy one... Burke Brass Pro Session.
Burkes are the ultimate mellow sounding whistles, and the volume is good in the session models.
At least that's my 2¢ worth.

I have tweaked many inexpensive whistles with varying degrees of success. My experience has taught me that Generations are still going to sound a little raspy no matter how much you tweak them. My experience has also taught me that Oaks are still going to have a buzz no matter how much you tweak the...

If you're in the market for a Bb, I'd highly recommend a Silkstone. I'm also a big fan of Burke whistles, but I have never played a Bb of Mike's. I've had a silkstone Bb for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. It has the extremely low air requirements and volume balance that are characteris...
