Re: Latest from the Workshop

The set is playing nicely. I would like to make one of these too, just to make one. They are practical, you can put a half set in you backpack, which you can’t do with a normal half set. I seem to have less and less time to play though. And I get on this site very rarely these days. My kids are gett...

Re: Testing the Waters

There is not enough money in the world (or stuff) that could purchase my two children. But I might consider offers for my wife though, I will even through in a tin whistle (just kidding about the wife thing). caedmon Kidding aside, does your 19 month old babble or speak some words? My son has Asperg...

Re: PIPERLINK to Pasadena, CA

I printed the info and gave it to someone that I work with. She said that she definitely go, and she’ll insist that her family goes as a Mothers Day gift.

I don’t know that my wife will let me out though.

Congratulations. It is a lot of work but extremely rewarding.

The trouble really begins when your daughter reaches puberty. My son is so easy to deal with. Both are a blessing.

Re: Tommy Reck

Hi Pat There is a lot of interest. I would love a copy. What do we need to do to get this ball rolling? You could also put together a book on these pipers. You always have great stories about these people. You could start by copying much of what you have contributed to this forum over the years. P.S...

Re: Alternative material for mounts

Marble is fairly soft, which is one of the reasons people have carved it for so long. But to make a mount, where you would bore it out and turn the outside, I think it would be too delicate to stand the test of time. I don’t think the weight would be a big deal unless you made very large mounts. I h...

Re: Decision time... I need YOUR opinions! :)

I would go for ebony, boxwood, and silver. Ebony is a good choice for a flat set, plumb wood would probably be a good choice for concert pitch, to mellow it out. It looks great too. Boxwood mounts are a great choice for ebony. It is a nice contrast, It is not so stark as the black and white effect y...

Re: Interacting with Pipe Makers

I have had a number of chanters and sets of various types of pipes made for me through the years. I don’t recall ever asking a pipe maker when the set would be ready. And, with the exception of one chanter I ordered, they are never ready on time. It is very difficult waiting, I must admit, but it is...

Re: T.Aebi chanters

I had contacted Tom a while ago concerning his chanters and he said that there would be new information regarding chanter this spring, which is just around the corner now. He does seem very nice from my limited contact. He said that he wanted to reduce the amount of projects he had, and come up with...

That is the Lad that Paul is teaching. You can see that Paul is leaning over to make sure that he (Paddy) is doing it correctly. :D

Re: Hunter pipes!!

Well Joseph, you are very tall, you might be able to play an A chanter without too much trouble.

I would think that a well made A would sound great. If we could convince Geoff Wooff to make one it that would be great.

Re: Digital Calipers

I have both dial and digital calipers. I just recently got the digital calipers, they can even read in fractions (on sale for $10 U.S.). They are not at a constant zero, because I can open them up before I turn them on and they show zero where ever they are at when I turn them on. So when I turn the...

Re: Hunter pipes!!

I have thought that an A chanter would be a good idea if the design works well for the hands.
