Re: Keurig?
I have a Melitta One:One single serve maker at my office at work, for the purpose of avoiding the break room coffee. A co-worker has a Keurig. I've been reasonably happy with mine - I buy coffee from bettercoffee.com - generally the Guatemalan (but I'm on sabbatical, so it's been a while). They have...

Re: Reliance banjo question.
Is the neck straight, or has the tension of the strings pulled it forward? In an instrument this old, it may not have been built for the increased tension of steel versus nylon (gut) strings. It appears from your pictures that someone has sunk two screws into the neck-pot joint. The dowel stick brac...

Re: Bass guitar...
For a beater bass, the "SX" instruments by Rondo (rondomusic.com) have a good reputation. I have two, a four-string Jazz bass copy and a five-string fretless with a high C, and like them both. Disclaimer - I have not seen or tried their short scale instruments. You might look on the talkba...

For Sale: Mini melodeon and concertina
I have two free reed instruments that need good homes for the holidays. The first is a Jackie 30-key english concertina from www.concertinaconnection.com. It is in perfect condition. Comes with gig bag and tutor book. Asking price $200 plus shipping costs. The second is a miniature 1 1/2 row accordi...

For Sale: Clawhammer banjo
Not quite the sort of banjo most Irish players use, but I thought it might be worth a mention anyway. I have a nice Mike Ramsey "Chanterelle" five-string open-back clawhammer banjo for sale. Maple neck and 12" pot; fiberskyn head. Comes with a great TKL hardshell case. I am not sure o...

For Sale: Two sets of Northumbrian Smallpipes
I have two sets of NSPs that need good homes for the holidays. The first is an eleven-key set by Ray Sloan (www.raysloan.com, but he no longer makes NSP) in blackwood, brass and imitation ivory. Four drones with tuning beads. Traditional pitch of nominal G, actual F+; includes bellows and functional...

Check out their link to a build-it-yourself melodeon. Might have to rig me up a workshop-- it would be a fun project. Can you post the link? -- I'm having trouble sorting through their pages using a translator. I think it's this one: http://www.akkordeonwerkstatt.ch/bausatz.htm Babelfish says: With...

I found an article in a Swedish newspaper about a recent japanese study, ... The results were that Green Tea reduces the risk of heart diseases a lot. Apperantly it doesn't do much good against cancer though. ... But I'm sure a little googling will turn it up. Here it is, courtesy of Yahoo News. Gr...

John, Tim, Thanks for the comments, I did check out the learning link in their page previously and it seems to only be geared towards the English concertina and from what I've gathered it's quite a different playing concept. Regards, Johnny The link that I posted was not the Concertinaconnection li...

These are very cool. I have a Jackie English, but would definitely like to try the Rochelle.
Here's a useful page on tutors, etc.

I like the Bertram Levy book.
Others with more experience will no doubt be along shortly with better advice.

In comparison, that toy accordion I had was fun and made sense to me when I played it...I'm guessing it was a single reed? Eric Don't count on it - those Hero/Schylling boxes are generally two-voice, and need to be modified by taping off one set of reeds. There's a tutorial on this by Dale at http:...
