Re: Why is the price of pre-owned sindt so high?
"And as we know it's the case with musical instruments that it's not just who made them, but when they made them." Truth! I got a Syn whistle, sold it to someone who raved over it, then tried to buy another. Not the same, not the same at all even tho they looked the same. Finally found an ...

Re: Why is the price of pre-owned sindt so high?
Anything (ie an instrument) sells at a very high price just because people are willing to pay it.
It is the basement of capitalism.
Rarity equals value.
I once sold an instrument I bought at $350 for $1000. I got some ragging for it, but that extra $750
was useful.

Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A
I don't need Irish, or Celtic for that matter...I love all folky music. But I don't think I can meld with Ray Charles! Thanks for the clip, PanCeltPiper. I heard a hammered dulcimer player (Dana Hamilton who made my 13/14 HD) play Soldiers Joy in D, then adjust it up to Em which is ridiculously easy...

Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A
What did I accomplish on whistle in 2019: Not much, I was learning last year that I'd never be a Basel piccolo player. My 2020 goals are to improve my ear. Tune of the Month? I got Morganstreich down, I'm playing mostly American folk music, like Gordon Bok My current fave tune is nearly anything tha...

Oh, I tabled it as soon as I thought about it. Please don't think I was suggesting it!
I shared because I was thinking how undo-able it was and I take my amusement as I can find it nowadays.
Never mind.

Thoughts on a Low D Tour. . .Great idea! not so great idea
With the renewed interest in low whistles, the extended quarantine, and a surfeit of ideas, I thought I would offer my Sweetheart/Musique Morneaux low D rosewood up for a tour. I am rightly biased, but maybe I'm biased because I'm right, and this low D is really amazing. I have or have tried most lo...

Re: Side blown low whistle
I used to have a 'widget' that was a closed piece of PVC that fit snuggly over the end of the whistle but didn't extend to the window. A hole drilled in the side is the airway. It was an interesting gadget, but I eventually got used to holding the whistle off to one side, and piper's gripping. Good ...

Re: Gradam Ceoil TG4 - Jackie Daly, name that tune...
Holy cow that was fast! Thank you. If this isn't 'the' tune I heard so many years ago, its close enough in emotion and delivery. Beyond that (I'm surprised to say) I have this CD, and have probably heard it multiple times since seeing the award program. Seeing a performance is a different experience...

Gradam Ceoil TG4 - Jackie Daly, name that tune...
Back in 2005 Jackie Daly was honored at an award show, and in it he played an air. Now I can't find the video of the show, nor the air, and I was hoping someone here would be able to point me in the right direction.
Many thanks,
Tygh

Re: Wooden Whistles
Ralph Sweet (may he rest in peace, and dance in heaven!) had been making flageolet, whistles, flutes and fifes since at least 1970. I have a flageolet numbered 1209, but I haven't looked up the info on it. I'm thinking that wooden flageolets probably were made by Aulos before that, but I don't know....

Musique Morneaux has a low D wooden whistle, I love mine. Easy breathe, lovely tone, no clogging issue.
