Re: Sticking C Key
Thanks, all! I was able to jiggle the little pin--never could get it to come all the way out. But, that seemed to do the trick. The C key is now working fine. I hope it continues!

Re: Sticking C Key
I'm not sure how to remove the key. I've removed the E-flat key on my baroque flute--it has a little hook at the end of the metal piece that holds the key, so I was able to pull that to remove the key. But this block-mounted key just has a tiny little piece of metal sticking out both ends of the blo...

Sticking C Key
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix a sticking key? The C key on my 6-key John Gallagher Rudall is staying open when I press the key. I've never had any trouble with any of the keys for nearly 10 years.....
Thanks for any tips, Jeanie

Sticking key?
I've got a key pad on my Irish flute that is sticking a bit. I oiled it recently and did put some papaer under the key pad to protect it, but didn't use plastic like I usually do. :( Does anyone know a way to de-stick the pad? I've tried using cigarette-type paper to soak it up, but it's still a bit...

Re: Wooden flute headjoints for Trevor James flute
I have a Copley head joint that I use sometimes with my Boehm flute. It does have a nice, dark sound, but still focused. I like it a lot.

Re: Hard Cases
John Gallagher's flutes are hard to "beat." The Northwind case I got for my 6-key is beautiful. J. Gallagher doesn't need a website. His work speaks for itself. Same goes for Bryan Byrne--absolute incredible craftsmanship, but no website. There are still a few Luddites around, for which I'...

Re: Rebuilding a Lost Embouchure
Coming back to the flute, I would do long tones and overtones to help get your embouchure back. Play a D scale and overblow A, B, C# and high D with the D E F# and G fingerings. That exercise helps whips your emb. back into shape. And, of course, listen, listen, listen to find the sweet spots for ea...

Re: Anyone heading to BOXWOOD this year?
I wish I could go. It was a wonderful experience when I went a few years ago. That year we had Kevin Crawford and J.M Veillon, among others. This year looks like a fantastic line up. I wonder if they didn't get as many families willing to billet this year?

Re: Baroque flute?
Simon Polak makes some really nice traversos. I have his Wijne in boxwood and it's fantastic. His flutes are well thought of and the workmanship is very fine.

Re: Anyone ever run across a Boxwood Bryan Byrne flute?
That's weird--I was just wondering this same thing yesterday! My absolute favorite Irish flute is my keyless blackwood Byrne. I'm going to call him about getting a keyed one. (He had told me in January to check back in about five months.) Maybe I won't get all 6 keys but the essentials--Eb and one o...

Re: New Gallagher Flute
I have a 6-keyed small-holed J. Gallagher flute that I love. I've had it around 5 years now and it's great. The only flute I like as much is my keyless Byrne, which has a slightly darker tone. I prefer both of them to Olwells, but that's just my personal preference. Smaller-holed flutes are easier f...

Re: SOLD: Perfect, Irreplaceable, Magical Olwell Boxwood Flute
I hope whoever bought it will post a review/sound clip. I got an all-boxwood Olwell Rudall from Jessie some years ago that is also a fantastic instrument. I'd love to hear this Nicholson all-boxwood to be able to compare it.
