Re: WTB...beg, borrow or steal?
I was fortunate enough to have my name come up on Geoff's list in 2001. I was not long out of university. I had been saving for the set since I ordered in in 2006. At the time it seemed very expensive but I was happy to pay the price as I knew the quality of the pipes. I have had trouble free and mo...

Re: Sightreading and piping
there's tons of brilliant stuff tied up in the dots that you'll never hear anyone play, unless you do. There are many cubic feet of sheet music for ITM out there, read it and play it. It's about interpretation, if you can feel it you're probably doing ok.

Paddy Keenan at the Blarney Star in NYC a number of years ago, just finished a set of tunes, someone from the crowd yells out and asks what the second tune was and who wrote it, Paddy responds that he doesn't know, someone else from the crowd yells out that it was Junior Crehan, Paddy responds "...

Re: Seamus Ennis's pipes or not ?
that chanter had its tonsils done, from the bell to the throat. Before the most recent operation it had already been messed with, apparently some by Seamus amongst others. NPU and Sean Reid society have written a code of practice, partly as a result of this case, to cover how to deal with old and/or...

Re: Who do you know playing Wooff sets ?
I have a Wooff B set, was the one made after Pat Darcy's. I play it regularly. Pat Lyons has a Bflat set that gets regular playing. I know a fellow in Western Victoria who has an old Bflat set that he plays regularly. There are a couple of sets in New South Wales that get played regularly. That's 5 ...

sessions in SantaFe on StPats
Hi All, I am visiting from the UilleannPipe cave. I am in SantaFe this weekend and am wondering if anyone knows of any sessions here this weekend, I dont have my pipes with me as they would probably split, or at least not play very well, with the dryness here but I do have a whistle. Could you pm me...

sessions in SantaFe on StPats
Hi all, I find myself in SantaFe, New Mexico, at an opening of an exhibition I am having here. I found myself a tin whistle at a music store here and am wondering if anyone knows of any sessions here where I can unleash it tomorrow (17 March). PM me if you do, it would be much appreciated, Cheers, G...

Captain Kirk!! Should'a seen the hail in Canberra last week. Was staying in a flat at the ANU and had to evacuate. Both sets of pipes had the equivalent of having a bucket of water thrown over them as the roof gave way to the deluge and the water started to cascade down the walls. All pipes are now ...

In some weather (drier) I put a small roll (about 1cm x 1.5cm) of paper in the end of the chanter to bring the hard D into tune with the rest of the notes. In more humid weather the paper can be dispensed with.
I think that all chanters would need at least slight adjusting with changing seasons etc.
