Since I play the bones, and they were used extensively in the minstrel shows, I've done a bit of research. Many minstrel songs were adapted to "old-time" songs, and eventually to Bluegrass and country. Also, many minstrel songs that were written down are the only remaining vestiges of the ...

I just played my silver D Meg and natural D Sweetone back to back again, and have a few more (extremely inexpert) comments. The Meg is especially troublesome on the Ds, both the first and second octave. Any large jump, and I'm more likely to "miss" than with the Sweetone. The Meg is howeve...

I'm a real beginner (playing erratically for almost six months!), and find the Sweetone hits notes easier, with less sqeaking and squawking. I don't know why, they certainly look the same, except for the material the body is made of. I have a "natural" D Sweetone, they're only $4.15 at Eld...

Can any of you guys explain that whole Rice-a-Roni thing to me? Dale Butter-browned rice and itty-bitty pasta...what's there to explain? Throw in the seasoning packet, and whatever other ingredients that tickle your fancy, and it's done before you can drive down Lombard street to Lark in the Mornin...

I'll probably make it. I'll bring my bones, of course. Maybe I'll learn to play a tune on the concertina before then. And I'll probably "sing" something like "As I Roved Out" or "Uncle Dan" unless y'all keep me heavily sedated.

Lurker

Hi, if this happens I might sit in a dark corner and listen to y'all. I'm a beginner who couldn't chiff his way out of a paper bag, but I'm having fun with it. I'll bring my bones to play along with a song or two, though, if you like.

I was practicing playing spoons at a farmer's market, waiting for the rest of the band to show up. I talked to a few folks for a little bit, but this one kid was just entranced. So I played some bones for him, sang "As I Roved Out," and played a few simple whistle tunes (poorly) on a Feado...

Hi, I'm new here, but I'm a bones player. I'm not a whistle player, but I'm working on it. Actually, I'm also learning to play the tabor pipe, so I can play bones while playing a tune...I've been working on "Star of the County Down" and it's a bit of a workout... I don't play sessions ofte...
