- A nice Walton's, to have a lower-end one in case I needed to bring it somewhere where it might be lost or stolen or something. Or just to have lying around the house.

My inspirations are Matthew Bivins of an indie folk/rock band that used to do Irish trad., and still perform it occasionally. It's called Jump, Little Children and they're my favorite band ever. My first whistle, a lovely silver Overton in D, was named after him. My other main inspiration was Andrea...

Yeah, that's what I did - I special ordered it from the folk music store where I used to work. It's not custom made or anything though. Jerry, I was planning to swing by the bookstore later, and they have packing tubes which SHOULD be large enough for my whistle. If so, I'll buy one and get the ball...

Oh man. What can I say to this? I know the traditional way is to use no sheet music whatsoever. I learned what I know from sheet music, for the most part, then memorized it. I personally have a wealth of tunes in my brain that I can play at any given time, well, unless it's one of the few really old...

I collect books, particularly modern-day literature (Ken Follett, Alice Hoffman, Barbara Kingsolver, John Irving, etc.) I also collect CD's (mostly Celtic trad and Celtic rock, but also some folk, folk rock, trance, emo, punk, rock, etc.) I also collect other folk instruments: mandolin, lap dulcimer...

The thing about recorders is, they can sound quite nice... But they just don't have that QUALITY that whistles have, that... lovely mournful sound when playing slow airs. I think the question that was posed here is the kind of question you'd expect to hear from someone who's more familiar with the m...

Oh, I've been meaning to mail him my Shaw low D, but I just... I just am afraid I'll miss it too much if I send it off all by itself to him! It might get lonely and miss me! What if it's lost in the mail? I can get postal insurance, but... A monetary re-imbursement is not the same as HAVING a Shaw L...

What sound do you get when you try to play those notes? A horrid sound, no sound at all, those notes an octave lower, what? I'm curious... I do know that some older models of Burkes have trouble with mouthpiece clogging, I don't know if your model applies. Try cleaning out the mouthpiece (and in the...

Well, I used to have a lovely alto G ocarina that was dark blue ceramic. It's still floating about my house somewhere, hundreds of miles away from me (I'm at college). I never really spent enough time with the ocarina to master the strange, circular scales. I got too confused. But I did learn, I thi...
