Re: An unexpected side effect of playing a Clarke original
Yet to try a sweetone but I like the airiness of the Clarke Original (except that the note C {°••°°°°}doesn't sound so good)

Re: An unexpected side effect of playing a Clarke original
About unhealthy whistles, I used to have a fife/whistle sort of thing (made by the San Francisco Flute Company as I recall) that had a lead mouthpiece. About smells, try playing a bamboo flute made by burning out the holes rather than drilling them. That burnt smell lasts forever. I found a whistle...

Re: Generation Bb whistles
Does he still make em? And are they available in the UK?pancelticpiper wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 5:30 am
That's where Jerry Freeman steps in. He takes Generation Bb heads (with his modifications) and makes new bigger bodies to go down to A, G, and even lower.
I have a self-made Generation A and a Freeman Generation G and I love them both.

Re: Generation Bb whistles
The Bb & A whistles are favoured because of their tone & easy playability for most people, whilst the low G & low F are bought because they have that mellow low tone, without being too big. If only Generation, or Feadôg for that matter, would extend their range. Generation on...

Generation Bb whistles
I have one of their nickel whistles in C and its not great, but then its a cheap whistle. I've noticed a lot of people love the Bb whistle in general, and today I watched a nice video of a brass Generation Bb being played and it sounded great (I will no doubt be getting one at some time...) The play...

Re: An unexpected side effect of playing a Clarke original
Is the wood fipple block necessary for the Clarke Original's tone? By that I mean: has anyone tried, or does anyone have an opinion, on whether the tone of the whistle would change if I replaced the wood block with a synthetic block of identical measurements? Disclosure: I own a Clarke, love the so...

Re: Clarke original dimple
The dimple in the tube is what may have passed for a whistle blade back in 1843 (as originally made by a blacksmith's buddy and total newbie whistle designer Robert Clarke in England). When there are no other whistles, better tools, better metals, experienced people or designs on the market, who'd ...
