My weekends tend to be pretty busy, but I'd like to come if I can get away. The weekends in March will probably work best for me, but please don't try to schedule it around me. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you decide.

The flute instructor for this workshop will be Kieran Marsden. Those of you from the Bay Area might know him as the regular flute player at the An Bodhran session in San Francisco. Well, at least that's how I know him.... Kieran is a great flute player and this workshop is your opportunity to learn ...

I just looked at the Claremont Resort web page and Justine is right -- I hadn't realized that it is so hard to find the address. So, here it is: 41 Tunnel Road, Berkeley, California 94705 That's the address for the Claremont, _not_ the tionol. I know that's not quite the same as the cross streets th...

I was not at all familiar with Irish Trad music when I started playing the whistle and now pipes, and I think it's not necessarily a bad idea. Without really thinking about it too much, I find myself listening almost exclusively to Irish trad recordings. What better way to get all those tunes and rh...

Why all the secrecy about the location? If other tionols did this, and I had to travel by plane to get there, I would seriously consider not attending. Saying it is in the East Bay Area is pretty vague. Send in your registration and we'll send you a map with the address. That's easy enough, isn't i...

No, it's not at Peter's house. We were not able to find a school or church building that worked out this year. Like I said before, think: "smaller, more intimate"....and register early.

Hi Lewis, Thanks for all your suggestions. This year's tionol will be a smaller, more intimate, gathering than in the past. You are right that there is no way we could fit 40-60 pipers in a house and still be able to walk around, much less keep the class sizes reasonable. If we could have found a bi...

Great! I am very interested in the flute workshop. When will you name the flute teacher?
I don't know when. Several names have come up, but nothing decided yet. I'll post something here when I find out.

Is there a BART station near the tionol location in the East bay? I'm not very familiar with the area, but it appears that the nearest BART stations would be quite a long walk from the tionol. Judging from the BART map, you might want to go to either the Ashby station or the Rockridge station. Ther...

Any word on who will be teaching?
Not yet.... A couple of names have been tossed around, but I haven't yet heard a final decision. I'll post something here when it is decided.

It looks like we're going ahead with the whistle (and flute!) workshops. Each of these will be held on one day: the flute classes will be on Saturday and the whistle classes on Sunday. I've updated the tionol web page with registration information: http://www.sfpipersclub.org/tionol.html I'm pretty ...

Update: We've added David Quinn to the tionol program! He will be giving a digital slide show presentation on pipemaking entitled "Pipemaking in the 20th and 21st Centuries". If you're at all curious about how the pipes are constructed, you won't want to miss this. We're also going to off...

The person who used to maintain our website decided not to stop, and he has not responded to repeated pleas to replace the old site with a forwarding link. I will send him yet another nagging reminder, but I'm not holding out much hope that he'll respond. Well, I've been proved wrong! The old web s...
