I think RLDD has it.

The tune is Larkin's Beehives with a Rafferty twist.

What do you think?

The One After Kilcooley Woods is An Buachaill Dreoite . Mary MacNamara plays it on Ceol Na mBan: Clare Women Of Music & Song. She plays a dramatic Fn at the end of the second bar, as does Joe Ryan and Mick O'Brien. The Stolen Reel is the name Mike gave to The Swallow’s Nest, a Paddy O’Brien tune.

Thanks. This site, with JM V and Sylvain Barou playing slowly, is a wonderful resource.

Thanks. Right you are. I was responding to the previous two posts. I'll carry it over there.

3,000 people died in 9/11. They were innocent civilians, just going to work. 9/11 furnished the excuse Bush wanted to invade Iraq. Since then the number of deaths of Iraq civilians killed in the war range in the hundreds of thousands. The US has brought a holocaust to these people. I cannot grieve f...

I don't think you have to do the one thing all the time. You don't have to play variations all the time, either. Depends on where and when.
That's part of the fun of it - for me, anyway.

Very nice playing. The point is whether an Fn can be used in the tune.

Please forgive the sloppy playing. Just to demonstrate a point. This is one way to play it - and one way that Kevin Burke plays it.
I play it on a keyless Olwell D.

Sheehan's is a perfect example of a tune with a shifting F# and Fn. Some Am jigs do the same thing. Banish Mishbuchas is another tune, in the third part. But I always play an Fn in the first part of The Cook in the Kitchen. There's nothing at all wrong with playing around with a tune. It depends on ...

"The idea in a session, IMO, is not to confuse or otherwise keep folks on their toes, but to play things communally." If you're with sympathetic people and musicians you feel comfortable with, you can do anything with a wink and a smile. It's a give and take, always. I love it when somebod...

Its easy enough to use the Fn as the second note in the second part. Even better on a key-less flute. Makes it a mournful sounding, sexy West Clare tune. Northwest Clare maybe? The Cliffs of Moher, at sunset, are absolutely spectacular. One of the wonders of the world. http://img47.imageshack.us/img...

Ignoring Cork's comments ( I don't think Cork goes to sessions. I often play a key-less flute in sessions and I half-hole with no obvious problem - solo is another story), you can play the tune either way or both ways. It's good to be flexible and to be able to go from Fn to F# when you want to. I o...
