This is a dog whistle!
I’m currently making a set of tunable ‘dog whistles’ for a customer and these are very much in the style of a Swannee whistle, closed ended with a moveable core to change the pitch. These will be in the octave 6 range and will give chromatic notes from A through to D

Re: Whistlehead for Flute
I was just about to post amessage concerñing thiis topic and spotted the thread. A little while ago, I bought a cheap 'Irish pattern' keyless D flute and didn't really get on with it. As a whistle maker (some of the older members may recall me, it is a long time since I have been on here!) I thought...

Home Away From Home
Hi, it has been years since I ventured onto this forum. Its good to be back! I heard Phil Coulter's and James Galway's 'Home Away From Home' this morning on the radio and was captivated. I have come up against a solid wall in tracking down the dots though! I don't want another book full of dots - go...

Phil Hardy's 'Highs and Lows' and a Weston Whistle Tour
Hi people, It has been a very long time since I have been anywhere near this site so it is great to be back! Two things, firstly, I have a ripped copy of Phil Hardy's Highs and Lows album. Unfortunately, there is no track listing and there are a couple of tunes on there that I sort of know but have ...

Re: help with repairs
Mmmmmm.... Methinks you are right Gary. I have to make a ring for an existing seat so I will have my work cut out for sure. I can source some half round brass beading of the correct dimensions so with a little bit of effort to form the ring, a bit of judicious brazing and borrowing some techniques f...

Re: Looking for philanthropic whistle makers for advice......
No no, fipple window is the same. By relatively closed I mean the slide is pushed most of the way in. This gives me a blade to bell length of circa 26.5cms. My placement formula then calculates positions based on distancee measured from the blade not from the bell. I can see your point abou measurin...

Re: Looking for philanthropic whistle makers for advice......
Ok, useful if inconclusive advice! Thanks. I did have one thought- I use a percentage formula to position the holes. In this case, I measured the positions from a relatively 'closed' fipple to bell end dimension. I then ended up with the loww octave tuning correct with the slide pulled out about 5mm...

Re: Help me choose a highend whistle
I have never played one but I have heard very good reports about that French chap Reviol. I have listened to a great Aussie piper/whistler who has a full set of reviol whistles and they sound beautiful.

Re: Aluminium Whistle Corrosion Warning
The resultant aluminum oxide is sapphire, a very hard mineral indeed. Is that true? I thought saphire was a compound of carbon - like diamond. Seems I was very wrong. Does that mean that my red anodised MK Low D is actually coated in RUBY!!? I love it even more now :D PS what about cork grease? Ive...

Looking for philanthropic whistle makers for advice......
Hi guys, As some of you are aware, I have been making whistles for some time but never tunable ones. I am experimenting with an alloy tunable D and though I say it myself, they look OK. However....... Can anyone suggest a reason why my tunable prototype is perfectly balanced in the lower octave but ...
