Re: Hand Stitched Bellows?
I have an old 'nailed' bellows which came with the 1852 Harrington set. When I got them the leather was the exact same on the Bellows and the Bag. Now we are fairly sure the set had left Ireland in the mid 1850's, perhaps it had returned at some point or a new bag and bellows had been purchased.... ...

Re: F# far to sharp
Thanks a lot Geoff, I was thinking the same this morning, putting it back to the flat A and work from there while also using different reeds. I will keep you updated here. I always start by asking myself : "Has this chanter worked correctly in the past ?" If the answer is YES then proceed...

Re: F# far to sharp
John,
some could see me as a one eyed monster... Perhaps I see myself that way and thus I have to constantly hold back from taking a "NO !! Not that way " attitude. There are more ways than my own , I am sure.
Thankyou for your supportive response.
Geoff.

Re: F# far to sharp
Tom, if your ' too sharp F#' was the only problem I would suggest the tone hole is too small BUT your explaination of how you tried to cure the flat A suggests ' you should not start from here' . Put everything back where it was and start again. decide if the flat A is in both octaves when everythin...

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
The bass reed Allan made has a normal main staple that slipped over a short narrower tube which was hemped and inserted into the end of the regulator. This was intended as an easier way of adjusting the reed position because you had the ability to move it in or out on the narrower tube rather than ...

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
Agreed enough from the buffers. So before anyone else gets us sidetracked on a spur line... what news from the sleeper ( OP) ? Has he tried any of the suggestions ? Would he say he aprieciates the time taken to try and help or should we just not bother to respond in future to cries for help ?

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
Yes , that's true but would a less well known piper have been given such a grant ?rorybbellows wrote: ↑Sat Oct 01, 2022 3:28 am Possibly, the way it's worded though implies the grant was for the pipes themselves. It's not important but just seems a bit odd, but typically Irish when I think about it.

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
https://i.postimg.cc/wvYzp7y8/Screenshot-20220930-220838.jpg That's a strange one from Ronan's website. Why would all those Irish promoting organisations pay half the money for a set of pipes made in Japan. RORY Would it suggest that the grant funding was given for the Art of playing the Pipes as o...

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
I will certainly defer to you, but my understanding was that he was trying to run his B set as a Bb set. I was hanging out with Bill Haneman briefly in 2007 when he had nearly finished a new B chanter for Ronan, and I recall him mentioning that. But again, I think you would know more than me! Oh it...

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
I think you will find that Ronan's 'B' set has a 'C' body ... or at least that is the way he ran it a few years ago.... So, in trying to bring the C regulators down to B to match the chanter he wanted to use, there were all sorts of strokes pulled to achieve this. Regarding the OP's topic; to my min...

Re: Lower regulator notes jumping the octove / squeaking
Opening the lowest regulator keys quickly and fully tends to cut down on squeeks and jumps. If the keys are set too low, so that the pads do not lift well clear of the tone holes, then notes can jump and squeel. Using a soft cane for the reeds helps alieviate these problems. Try adding masking tape ...

Re: where to sell a half set of pipes
Most action appears to be on social media these days. I would try one of the Piping groups on Facebook. James, this is the second time you have done this, it is not a good look. The first time you made a considerable profit on my work, though the set went to a very good home ! I hope this time aroun...

Re: Building bellows questions: leather gusset and outlet pipe
Bob, thanks for the suggestion and link but they are the 'cone head' type and are, I think, used for very hard leather where the cone head is hammered in flush but for the bellows I search for the flat head version which causes more downward pressure on the welt, squeezing the gusset tight against t...
