Sessions in Riverside, California area?
Anyone know of any traditional sessions happening in the Riverside, California, area? Anywhere in the Inland Empire would be of interest.

If you're in North America, Ossian USA has them for US$22.

Rumor has it that the guests will be Michael Cooney and Ivan Goff, but you've heard none of this from me.

Re: 2013 Southern California Tionól
Just a quick bump for the SoCal Tionól. Also, here is the address and directions for the venue: 30201 Outpost Road, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. From I-5, take the Junipero Serra exit (one south of Avery). Turn left at the bottom of the ramp, then turn left on Rancho Viejo Rd. Go a couple of block...

Re: 2013 Southern California Tionól
Hey Jamie, Right you are--all events will be at the community center this time around, starting with the Friday night party. I recommend the Fairfield Inn in Mission Viejo (which reminds me I need to book a room). To recap, the 2013 SoCal Tionól is the weekend of November 15-17, with Eamonn Dillon, ...

Re: ask from china, about the price of Uillean-pipes
Dear Cai, Welcome! Be sure to read the thread warning about uilleann pipes made in Pakistan. A good practice set can be found for around US$1,000 and up. Visit Patrick D'Arcy's Uilleann Obsession website for lots of information: http://www.uilleannobsession.com/ . I would recommend joining Na Píobai...

Re: Pushing the CP chanter into tone
Yes. I think that there is an over-emphasis expanding repertoire and learning ornamentation, and that more time needs to be spent working on tone and phrasing. It comes down to taking the time to explore the tonal possibilities of each note on your particular chanter, then optimizing the tone of eac...

Re: question about cheap pakistani pipes sellers on ebay
The "pipes" probably arrive promptly, look pretty in the box, and feedback is left before any actual attempts are made to play them. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Re: same old tunes
May I suggest Jerry O'Sullivan's "O'Sullivan Meets O'Farrell" (Vol. I & II), all tunes taken from the O'Farrell Collection, which you would be unlikely to encounter at your local session (very fine playing as well!).

Re: Putting pipes away on stage
The answer is obvious--stop playing the accordion. Perhaps you can put together a gig-bag/soft case that you can use in conjunction with the keyboard stand, to make the pipes a bit more secure on the stand and prevent total disaster if the stand falls over.
