Re: Playing faster, playing perfectly...

I have been boring people for years telling them that they just have to practice painting until they get good. No one wants to believe it though. If you can't play an instrument or paint a painting then its because you don't have the magic talent, not that you are a lazy slug who never stuck at anyt...

Re: Halloween

The two might have been conjoined for quite a while, In 601AD Pope Gregory I made an edict that missionaries should use existing customs and beliefs but just consecrate them to Christ. So this was a deliberate policy not an accident. All Souls day is I believe is from the C9th.

It didn't sell last time, as I recall.

I would expect good, linked to Eric Moulder well known as an early instrument maker for many years.

Re: Nice old flute, 45,000 years old in original case

Is it Rudally or does it lean more towards a Pratten in style? Would you play it pipers grip or classical? In those days did they glottal stop or tongue? What would the cork position be?

Powells on Four Corners in the main street music shop usually has a few Murrays in stock. Worth walking up along the river to see all the old mill races.

Re: Rudalls in Hobgoblin

Beware there are people in Manchester who have the habit of stamping Rudall onto flutes that ain't! (I know cos I bought one!) The late lamented Andrew Kirby told me the name of the probable culprit, but I'd best keep that to myself. So I would advise to check provenance especially carefully.
