Re: Favorite Whistles

This is my best whistle, a "magic" Pre-80's Bb Generation. It looks somewhat like Rory Gallagher's Stratocaster, but it out-plays every Bb i have tried and own/ed. Playing it neck to neck with my new Jerry Freeman tweaked Bb Gen, the old one buzz betwen the fingers and has a much more hau...

Re: Favorite Whistles

My favorite whistle fluctuates between the Burke narrow bore brass D and my "Frankenwhistle"-- an Oak D head on a nickle generation body. Probably the absolute best sounding whistle I have is an older style Generation Bb that is magical!

Re: What whistle do YOU love?

What whistle....that you own....do you LOVE....? I mean....THAT one whistle.... the one you would NEVER part with....The whistle that brings YOU the most joy and pleasure in your life? THAT whistle.... that at the end of the day, brings peace and serenity to your soul when you play it? THAT whistle...

Hi Everyone, Just got back from Milwaukee and saw this thread. I wanted to say first of all that I recommend that my whistles never ever be immersed in water at all. I recommend pulling a strip of cloth soaked in alcohol if you wish to clean the bore. The water can get under the plastic liner in th...

I'll echo that. My narrow bore Burke is the easiest to play whistle I've ever tried. Its just hard to make that sucker squawk! :)

The best whislte I own (with the possible exception of my Burke narrow bore brass D) is my "Oakenstein" D-- an Oak head on a brass Generation body with the sticky tack tweak. It has that tone you want and plays like a dream. It's the closest I will ever come probably to the mystical (or sh...

I've owned the first generation style brass D, a composite C, an aluminum delrin tipped wide bore D, and my current favorite, the narrow bore brass delrin tipped D. All have been excellent whistles. You cannot go wrong IMHO with Michael Burke's whistles.

"Celtic Women" are good, but...it's a little hard for me to handle them... -Casey What drives me mad watching the show is that it looks like all the "Celtic Women" are all lip-syncing. I know they probably aren't, but it sure looks like they are. And that fiddle player is a litt...

Re: Vibrato

This is probably another newbie question but I was wondering about the pros and cons of using breath control versus fingers to accomplish vibrato. I have been working on both ways and I see the following: Breath pros: You can do it on any note. It takes some of the "load" off your fingers...

I bought a 70's Generation d (brand new back in the 70's). I sent it to Jerry Freeman awhile back and asked him to reproduce the sound and improve on the whistle by reducing the raspiness and strengthening the low end. He did it with a new one and now I have a perfect Generation as well as the orig...

Nice. What kind of shape is it in? Like new, or played in and taped up Paddy Maloney style? Its in "good" condition. The tip has a few gnaw marks and the brass on the barrell is pretty tarnished in some spots, but structurally it is sound and there are no dents, cracks, or any other probl...

Just bought a 1970's Generation D on eBay

I just received a Generation D brass, redtop whistle I bought on eBay. It was advertised as a 1970's model, and upon inspection it definitely is an older style Generation, with the visible seam down the middle and the older fipple design. So I think I got a real deal here-- only about $15, shipping ...

Hey, where is L.E. McCollough on this thread?

He pretty much wore out his beloved blue topped generation D I think and had to retire it (and it looks close to being worn out on his instructional video-- but it still sounded great).
