Bodhran Maker Advice??

I'm looking into buying a bodhran for my brother. When I asked him, he expressed an interest in a "deep-shell" styled drum, with a max. of 1 cross bar. I would like to get him as nice an instrument as possible, but I don't think that I could spend more than $450 or so. Does anyone know wh...

Hey Neil..... Sorry about any misunderstandings on my part... (no offense taken I hope!) Will have to check out this "Weakest Link" and have a look for myself!:-) With regard to the nicknames, sounds like everyone was putting their two cents in... (Perhaps we should start a running list of...

Re: Gandolf

An amusing story about the Tional: Someone at the dinner table was busy assigning nick names primarily to the instructors at the gathering. Mickey Dunne looked like the MC of the game show The Weakest Link, and the other one that I recall was that David Powers looked like a larger Frodo (Elijah Woo...

LOL.... String?? sorry.... I guess the term "cord" could be misleading... lol.... nylon string probably wouldn't work too well would it?? That just left a funny visual impression in my mind... I can just see someone trying to stuff a length of nylon string into the end of a chanter, and th...

Good Material to make Chanter rushes?

Does anyone have any recommendations about what sorts of materials seem to work well for them, when making chanter rushes? It would be nice to find something that doesn't tend to fall out the chanter. I've tried nylon cord, but it seems to like to slip out every once in a while. And YES I HAVE tried...

Obviously, some people would consider my case to be "over done" but you can have anvil make you a case in any size you'd like. Their prices are actually reasonable, and you sure can't beat them in durability.. So you might just check them out... Couldn't hurt right? :) ... here's the link ...

with pipes

Seems the people want to know if James Kelly has done any albums with pipes. I've never heard it myself, but according to Paddy Keenan's website, Paddy and James did an album together, called "James Kelly" http://www.paddykeenan.com/discography.htm As I said, I've never heard it, but I wou...

Any Fans of the MYST series computer games??

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the MYST series computer games and novels. The other day, while I was checking out the trailer for the upcoming " Myst IV Revelation ", I became rather nostalgic and decided to check out the trailers for some of the older MYST games as well. While watching the...

=Popular Cases for '04=

This case is an absolute MUST HAVE this season! It made its debut at last year's "East Coast Tionol" to rave reviews, and is certain to be at the top of every piper's "cases to buy" list this year.... It has been referred to as the "Irish Giant", but is more popularly k...

rakes???

Having spent a considerable amount of time in and about the celtic music scene, I have encountered my fair share of "Rakes of" tunes........ And so I've decided to make this inquiry on the good old Chiff and Fipple forum: What exactly is a rake anyway??? (I can only assume that these wonde...

I would just like to thank Tyghress for bringing this AOL Radio thing to my attention! Usually the "generic" radio guides suck pretty bad... So I never bothered to even look at it even though I've been using AOL for years. So Thanks!:-)
