The answer in central Ohio is - you can walk while drunk until the police catch you. No kidding. Columbus police can stop/ticket/arrest someone for "Drunk walking". The ordinance was designed to clean up areas surrounding The Ohio State University. I don't have any stats on how many arrest...

This post shatters my current thoughts about Air America.

It confirms that there is more than one person (Al Franken) listening to it at one time.

Don't forget to send in your $$$ during pledge week, tommykleen.

Viva la difference.

"Beverly Hillbillies" reminds me of a little fun I have at one of the local sessions.

When this one tenor banjo player shows up I will go through the first couple bars of "Dueling Banjos" when there is a lull in playing.

Mr Conners , I too have young children. Even playing the theme tune for Teletubbies will not sway their loathing for the pipes! There is a kids programme called "Balamory" which they love watching. they will just about tolerate a rendition of that theme tune. I guess I am fortunate, then....

The wife and I have 2 small children (4 and 2 years) and use the public library a lot. The wife got a music cassette with "Winnie the Pooh" songs performed by reasonably famous artists. A few of the tunes were performed by The Chieftains, including the title track - "Winnie the Pooh&q...

I suggest taking a look at Pat Sky's chanter reed document that he made available in the past couple of weeks.

Just talked to Seth Gallagher today, Tues the 22nd. My set is all ready to go and will be shipped out Weds, the 23rd. He apologized for the extra day delay - he needed to get something together for David Power over the past couple days. Seth said my chanter reed is a "real kicker" by his s...

Don't forget the 6 string banjo. It's otherwise known as um... well... a 6 string banjo.

I have one and it sounds like... um... a banjo with 6 strings.

All the best.

In general, if the song/air is too beautiful to be played on the whistle (or any other regular instrument), it's perfect for the uilleann pipes.

Not to be a downer on this accomplishment, but this person thinks that the first frontier (stomp your foot if you have forgotten where that one is) needs quite a bit of working on before getting too excited about expanding our horizons. Always the veiled critiques from the Luddites and hand wringer...

Your main problem will be the level of sound on the stage, so you probably want a loud whistle. Other than that, close miking on the voice window should do the trick. I'd use a cardioid small condenser microphone like the little AKGs or Shure 98. I couldn't agree more with glauber on the sound leve...

It's up but the "Tune of the Month" produces bad html.

I guess it's better than seeing the same old tune that had been up there for about a year.

I started playing whistle because I started playing uilleann pipes. Usually there's a whistle lurking in a piper's case and for good reason: the fingering is about 95% of the pipes and it's easier to pull out a whistle and play than it is to strap on the pipes. I used the whistle to pick out tunes a...
