You can find some cheap harps on ebay if you're worried about ruining a Special 20 or whatever. That's what I did. A handfull of Bluesbands with combined shipping was dirt cheap. I really didn't need more than a couple though, tweaking is that easy. Heck, I worked on one today with a screwdriver, f...

I have already answered Jim privately, but for the public record: I have a keyless Reviol (#34). It is my everyday flute, and as soon as I can tear myself away from it, I hope to send it back to its maker for keywork. Maybe after the summer season. Anyway, a fine flute with superb craftsmanship. Augusta Mini-classes

Does anyone have an opinion on these? Are they a good use of time, or do they just interfere with practice and crack.

I would appreciate any insight from veteran workshoppers.

Thanks

I saw the original msg, and I wouldn't consider what was written too far out of bounds except that it was obviously a cross-thread attack under the guise of " helpful " advice. And then the grammarians got involved(which was actually much more interesting). I'm only posting this to test my...

Byron, it'll be good to meet you as well -- counting John I think there might be four of us in the state now. Whoo-hoo! I feel a boom coming on! Cathy, Yes, I agree. I've been meaning to PM you (If I may drag this off topic for a minute) about the Louisville Fest. Any news on that? I'm trying to li...

Nelson, Cathy means recording device (cassette, mini-disk, digital direct...). Apparently anything learned during the day is reluctant to be repeated that night, so the lessons are recorded. On my list of things to do before July is to learn my iHP-120 inside and out. As for point (1), although I ha...

Well, we're getting quite the contingent of Chiffers aren't we. I'm of two minds on having prior knowledge of the tunes. I also have Lesl's book and find it to be a great resource ( Thanks Lesl!!!), however I don't want to miss the opportunity to experience learning some tunes the old way...call and...

Great idea Dow, but I'm already registered. The group thing is a great idea. I wonder how many Chiffers are going. Might try the other boards.

Nice Jim, very nice. I was going to add a comment, but I think I'll just let it stand.

Good work Jim. I've always wanted to try busking, but I don't think the folks 'round here would "get it". They'd probably try to send the parish social committee around the house with a food basket or something. You must be having that nice weather we had earlier in the week. Glad you enjo...

Great decision Dow, I'll be there too and looking forward to meeting a bunch of Chiffers.

Oh, and it's 171 days...But who's counting.

I agree with Jim. I actually thought Henke praised the flute quite highly.

I think the expressive qualities of round vs. rectangular (and points in between) have been discussed enough to automatically allow for personal preference.

For myself, I didn't feel Henke stepped over any bounds.

Steel Wool !? Brave souls.

Seriously, though, I think it could be safely done.

One thing the worn look does do is show that I've been putting in my time. But the parts that are remaining shiny are just so...well, shiny.

I'm not sure how directly this addresses your questions, but I play a Reviol in Honduran Rosewood which I find to be a great flute. On mine the varnish is very thin and has mostly worn away. Not that it really matters, but for the record I wish it didn't have the varnish. It gives a patchy appearanc...
