Just seen on the ITMA website that Mick Hand has died. Mick was very kind and welcoming to me back in the early 80s at Willie week and he will be missed.
His solo CD had the most fantastic title.
RIP Mick

Re: Looking for Kenr......
Sorry Andy I'd tried to sent an email to you but it obviously failed to get through so I've tried again as asked above.
Sorry to everybody else for conducting our discussions in public!

Re: Question about Fred Morrison UPs
Hmm after a bit of googling, JR is right; Fred Morrison's set was "based on" Keenan's although I think the drones would be a bit narrower than the Crowley pattern and Fred's chanter is apparently made by Quinn and Koehler so overall not a typical Williams model.

Re: Question about Fred Morrison UPs
Interesting comment there JR. Dave made the set for Paddy around 1999. So there must have been a lot of regulators made for sets before that date that were based on something else. The Keenan set was a close copy of the Crowley, but there's no guarantee Williams used that model as the basis for sets...

New recordings of Michael Coleman
Surprised nobody else has mentioned this. ITMA have acquired four acetate sides of Michael Coleman recorded in February 1942 at Lad O'Beirne's home. The recordings were previewed on the Rolling Wave on RTE Radio 1 on Feb 14th and are now on the ITMA website. The playing is astonishing. There are als...

Re: John Rooney R.I.P.
Jeez, that is sad news. John called to my house a couple of times back in the 80s looking for us to fix him up with a session. I had often hoped to bump into him again somewhere along the road.
My sincere condolences to his family.

Vincent Campbell RIP
I'm surprised nobody has noted the death of Donegal fiddle legend Vincent Campbell. He died on 2nd December aged 80 and there's a nice tribute to him on the last Rolling Wave on RTE. Searches on Youtube throw up a number of videos and of course there was a double CD of his playing released a while a...

Re: Liam O`Flynn R.I.P
I can only echo all the praise and regret at Liam's death. I first met him in 1978 at a local folk club, shared breakfast with him the next morning at the friends house where we were all staying. Saw him often enough over the years either solo, in duets with Paddy Glackin or Matt Molloy and the vari...

Re: Ebay Items
Geoff, I don't want to start an argument here but Thomas and I both based our opinion on the ebay items looking like Dave's handwriting. If you know different, all I can say is your source has handwriting identical to Dave's. Dave gave me copies of some drawing of a different set and the style and h...

Re: Ebay Items
Those drawings were done by Dave Williams. His script is unmistakeable. I thought the Armagh piper's club had been given the contents of his workshop.
The fact they've been withdrawn so quickly suggests they should never have been offered for sale.

Ned Coleman
Just been informed that Kylebrack flute player Ned Coleman died in early December. Funeral was last week on the 12th. Ned was a very generous man and a fine musician who made an English visitor to the Hill in Kylebrack feel very welcome in the days when he used to play there with Charlie Harris. Ned...
