Which band? On what planet?

Who knows Nan. Perhaps they did not know what a flute was.

Re: Ancient Flutes

Just in case there are people who read this thread who actually care - here is a source about transverse flutes in Europe BC.

Re: Ancient Flutes

I suppose this is where I play the nitpicking pedant and point out that you can't have a European Iron Age transverse flute. They didn't exist in Europe until the Middle Ages, having traveled from an easterly direction. But if you want to be authentic, maybe you could wear a sari or something. A tr...

Re: Ancient Flutes

In true Iron Age fashion, you should make one yourself. That's what they did back then. They did not go to the Internet and ask someone else to do it. Go kill a large animal, eat the meat and then hollow out the long bones and make some holes. :D Why re-enact when you can act? LOL, that's what I sa...

Re: Ressikan Flute! Now you can own one!

Aw. Just think how many star trek fans that are out there just drooling for a Ressikan flute. Hm...perhaps a whistle maker can do a better job.

Ancient Flutes

Hello, I do Celtic iron age reenactments and I am trying to find a flute with this scale: http://teddytourteas.blogspot.com/2012/04/malham-iron-age-pipe.html But I would like it to be a transverse (side blown) flute that looks like bone (if possible): http://homepage.eircom.net/~bronzeagehorns/image...

Flutes the Druids played

Now that I have your attention. Does anyone have any info about the Wilsford flute that was found near Stonehenge or the flute that was found in the Avebury stone circle? Just to make a note...these flutes pre-date the Celts in England - so, no they are not "Druid" flutes. Not so say Druid...

Re: Clues that people don't like your playing

Some people just don't like the flute. "You know that I become quite powerless whenever I am obliged to write for an instrument which I cannot bear." --Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in a letter to his father, after being commissioned to compose flute music I say play from your heart - the ones ...

Muraus Flutes?

Hello everyone, Last November I was in Galway Ireland and paid a visit to Powell & Sons Music. There I fell in love with a flute and bought it. Due to time constraints and the staff's lmited knowladge of their flute stock - I knew very little about the flute - other than I liked it. The slide jo...

I have many flutes from many different makers and I have been playing them for many years. I have Native American flutes, Irish flutes, modal flutes, modern fifes and very old fifes. One of my fifes was made by a guy who got into making fifes because one if his kids wanted to learn the fife. He look...
