Re: Looking for a new headpiece for old whistle

It goes on a little more than 1/2" (14mm), and the inside diameter is .650" (16.5mm).

Anyway, just an idea.

Re: Looking for a new headpiece for old whistle

You could maybe try using the head of a Clarke Sweetone - the D head is a little wider than the Gen Bb tube, and you can adjust the fit with masking tape or something. My Bb whistle has a Sweetone head on it, because the old Gen head cracked apart.

Wooff narrow bore D reed

Hi all, I've had a (c.1990) Geoff Wooff narrow bore D chanter come in looking for a reed. There's no original reed present; can anyone help with some ballpark (or even better) measurements to start with? The only actual dimensions i've found so far are in this thread , i'm just wondering if there's ...

Re: Funky Musical Genres and taste in music in general.

Am I the only westerner who loves this sort of stuff? Gluk'oza has been my new favourite artist since the moment i first heard her last fall. Somehow her stuff is like everything you've heard before, and at the same time like nothing you've heard before. At the time, i had to hunt far &a...

I've never been clear what non-upgradeable really means. If a set has a bag, then it's upgradeable, simply by tying in a mainstock with some drones. Aren't the budget chanters supposed to play/sound within the realm of "normal" chanters, only plainer (Sky) or made with cheaper materials &a...

I can think of about a dozen on Vancouver Island. There's a couple of folks who basically just have sets in their closets, a couple of us who play out regularly, and a bunch in between. When i moved to Victoria (from Montreal, in 1996), i was pretty much the only player in town. I'll let Greg speak ...

Hi all, It's all true. I had rescued them from a local pawn shop some years ago, and finally put them up for sale in December 2003. Steve bought them, and i'm sorry to hear now that he's having to give them up. I had some correspondence with Casey Burns when i was buying & refurbishing the set; ...

My main cittern has a shortish scale (20.5") and i tune either GDAEA or GDADA and capo up depending on the key. I'm typically flatpicking melody and/or doing simple droney accompaniment; i tend to think of the thing as an octave mandolin with a high A drone. This is one of things that really ap...

I'm not an expert but here's my experience: Pretty much any parcels coming into the country have Canadian GST tax due and payable on receipt. There may also be duty depending on the type and/or value of the item. In addition to these, UPS bills the receiver an extra $35 or so for customs brokerage f...

Also, right now there's apparently a 5-6 week backlog of parcels waiting to clear Canadian customs and enter the country. So the flute might not be lost for good.

I've had high hopes for it since i first read the name in one of Alan Ginsberg's plans. It's hard, heavy, and beautiful to boot. I'm right now finishing up a set of Northumbrian pipes in bloodwood, and i'm thrilled with how they're working out. (Only 10 chanter keys to go! :boggle: ) The only other ...

Re: Willow Whistle

I saw a band called Althing (http://www.althingmusic.com) play. One of the musicians plays a traditional scandinavian "willow flute". Basically this is a long thin whistle with no holes (well just the one at the end). Because the bore is narrow, it naturally overblows easily. So by using ...
