Stuart & William - Thanks for the reviews. I think I'll order one of Steve's flutes. They sound nice from your reviews and from his clips, and I like the look.

If two equals every, then the answer would be yes . Seriously though, I did a search for Tallgrass Winds, found no detailed reviews/comments on their quality (Stuart did say in one thread he was going to post a review), and my other thread on Olwells did not have Tallgrass Winds in the thread ...

Doc - that's a classic motto! I agree it's a fun and addictive hobby.

Have you tried adjusting the cork position? Moving the cork closer, or further, from the embouchure can help the tuning in the upper octave. Unfortunately, I can't recall which way does what!

Deep into my Olwell vs. Hall topic, Stuart mentioned he had just received a Tallgrass winds bamboo flute by Steve Cox. Stuart - Could you give a "mini" review? Anyone else tried one of these flutes? The clip from the Tallgrass webpage sounds really, really nice: http://www.tallgrasswinds.c...

Stuart, thanks for the link to Tallgrass Winds. The performance low D flute sounded great.

Anyone else have any opinions on Tallgrass bamboo flutes? How comparible are they to Olwells?

You both think I have more artistic talent than I do...

Doc, how do you like your G flute?

I take mine to work and play in a park (much to the general public's annoyance) during lunch.

Perhaps the biggest bonus is that it doesn't set off my office's metal detectors when I go through!

A few weeks back, I posted I had made a CPVC flute that I use for travel, hiking, etc... Nothing fancy, in tune enough for friends and family, but it's, well, plain whitish! It screams for some form of decoration. I tried putting on some Celtic "tatoos" (simply B & W knotwork around th...

Chris & Loren, thanks for the replies. I think I'll put an order in for an Olwell as long as he is still accepting them (I'm in no hurry so I don't mind the wait). I'd like something I can play that looks more traditional, sounds more traditional (just received the Wooden Flute Obsession CD the ...

Is the Olwell bamboo really comparible to one of Erik the Flutemaker's bamboo flutes? I picked-up one of his at a Ren. Fest. last year (low D), and it is terribly out of tune (it's not even in tune with itself - it's close, but not quite) and has the longest finger stretch on the last hole I've ever...

Anyone ever compare the Hall Crystal Flute in D with an Olwell Bamboo? I have the Hall, rather like it, but just seem to keep dreaming about the Olwell...

However, I hate to spend the $80 or so if it is not a significant jump up in sound/quality.

Any advice?

I like the idea of a two part whistle. As for the fife, I already play flute and have a Sweetheart Renaissance fife that I'm not enchanted with...I was hoping the Dixon was better.

I assume if the connecting part becomes loose that Tony would sell replacements...

I'm contemplating getting a Dixon high D pennywhistle, and I'm a bit tempted to spend an extra $10 and get the piccolo head that turns the whistle into a Piccolo in D (isn't that just a fife in D?). Has anyone played the Dixon 2 piece whistle/piccolo? The whistle board gives great reviews for the wh...

Now I'm thoroughly confused. To date, I've played high D whistles by Shaw (hated it), Clarke Original (rather liked that one), a Waltons Guiness LBW (I have real issues hitting high A and above on this whistle), and an Oak (too long ago to remember how I felt). Bascially, I like a mellower whistle, ...
