Anyone have any experience with Easttop Paddy Harmonicas?

So, I was browsing some harmonica sites the other day when I found that a Chinese company, Easttop is making Paddy Richter tuned harmonicas and selling them for under $20. Normally I would have completely ignored this since so many Chinese branded harmonicas are not very good. But then I found out t...

Harmonica Question: Paddy-Richter vs. Solo Tuned for Irish?

HI all, I recently picked up a few cheap harmonicas in C so I could start teaching my kids some music (they are young and their fingers are not yet capable of dealing with the whistle). Anyway, while I originally was only going for the most basic stuff (Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle, Twinkle, etc....

Re: Preferred Brand of Whistle

in response to the poll, and all the comments thus far..... what is the ideal temperature for water when steeping one's tea? be well, jim Well any good Irish man will tell you, the water needs to be just off boil when it is poured onto the leaves. Oh right, and it has to be boiling in Fahrenheit, o...

Re: Whistle Regimen and Songs for a Beginner

Hey, everyone! I'm a beginnig whislter--I recently got mine over a birthday after searching years and years for what the beautiful instrument I loved so much in Irish music was. Anyway, I've been looking at tin whistle tutorials, and have the very basics down. i can produce a good tone, and underst...

Re: Give Me Your Best!

My favorite whistle moment is quite recent... I am not a great player, really still a total beginner with a few simple tunes under my belt. That being said, I doubt that I could find a better experience if I had played for 50 years and was so good that Mary Bergin wanted lessons from me :)... The be...

Re: A nice Christmas...

Hi Nancy,

I am still very new to the whistle, but the whistle can be played quite quietly.. though it does play differently when you are muting it.. it seems to require a bit more push to get it to sound.

A nice Christmas...

Well, not that I needed it to have a wonderful Christmas with my wife and our families and our son, but my wonderful wife got me a Park's D whistle for Christmas. Now it will make it easier to practice when people are around.

Re: Rates for Wedding Whistler/Flautist

This topic is a revelation. I really thought you all got paid more. I shall henceforth never dream of becoming a professional musician. A rather prominent Irish musician I know once told me that he basically made about as much doing his day job as he would likely be able to make if he played music ...

Re: Question about the Bodhran Tipper Length

I find an open pocket knife to be the perfect tipper :)

Sorry, I couldn't help myself... if you are going to play a Bodhran, you better have a sense of humor about it.

Re: I think I need to lay down now!

This new whistler received his first ITM CDs and just finished listening to 2 from Mary Bergin. (Feadoga Stain 1 & 2) I also got a Joanie Madden CD and one of the Chieftains. I'll be ordering more soon, mostly from MTGURU's list. I do not believe I have ever heard so many notes played in such a...

I believe he simply scaled down his operation (Maybe took a break). Now I expect he will sell then as he makes them as opposed to taking orders a head of time.

Re: Well known players who can't read music

Being able to read/write music and having a knowledge of music theory is a two edged sword. Yes it can greatly facilitate understanding and passing on existing types of music and working within the boundries of the music theory you have learned, but I suspect it might not (unless your education inc...

Re: Well known players who can't read music

Unless you can show me that human nature has changed over the past 2,500 years, Homer is as valid an example as anyone else. The job market and lifestyles have changed. Not many oppurtunities for hunters and gatherers these days. Not much work for software developers back in Homer's day. Yeah, the ...

Re: Question about types of whistles for sessions

Hey I have a question about a whistle to be used in a session. I've been playing with my band, here in Brasil, with my susato, and sometimes I hardly can listen to it because of uilleann pipes and people screaming or claping. Susato helped me, because it's impossible to play with my feadog. I'm not...
