This happens to me all the time. If I pre-bore a blank, those wasps will get in there and block it up. Lots of these critters in Florida.
What I do now is lay a blank in front of the bored ones preventing anything from getting in. They prefer small holes 1/8" or 3/16".

Re: Wood
I have a quantity of sea grape (coccoloba uvifera} blanks that have been waiting to be turned. It's a nice pink to red with light colored sapwood. Made a couple of awls and small boxes so far. The heartwood is dense enough to make pipe parts from. When I have turned something uilleann related, it wi...

Re: Bag blowpipe placement position?
Is there a standard method for positioning the blowpipe stock. My new hide bag measures 10 5/8" (26.98cm} at the widest part. On my home made synthetic one 11 1/2" {29.21cm} it's about 8" (20.32cm} down. Also would like to know how far in from the outside it needs to be. I made mine a...

That sackpipa in orange wood is awesome! Reminds me of Pecan. Looks like that will be another species I'll be hunting for.
One of my 7/8 inch bellows inlet valves is currently listed on eBay. You can see how white this lumber is there.

Re: Lemon wood for uilleann pipes
I meant a tree that grows lemons. Nice Pipes! Since I'm in Florida, I'll get all the lemon I can find. Someone gave me some lemons about a year ago that were as big as grapefruit. Would like to have a bit of that tree. I didn't know that some lemons have thorns. I'm going to try and seal it with som...

Thanks PJ. I'll have to check that out. May have to save this wood to make a chanter from.

Lemon wood for uilleann pipes
Anyone ever try turning lemon wood for uilleann pipes? I was given a piece about 5 feet long several years ago and finally turned a few parts. It's really white and is the closet lumber in color to ivory that I've found. Birch and maple are more amber in hue. Have made three inlet valves from it so ...

I haven't been successful in reaching David Daye for reeds for one of his chanters or other parts. Have tried to email him at least four times with no reply. I have trouble hearing on a phone. Go with someone that gives customer service.

I'd like to see a photo of that bag, especially the neck part, being played, or at least, inflated. Thanks!
