Damn but it's hard to say goodbye to good friends. EB, didn't you bring her to Milwaukee Irish fest over the years? It seems like I remember her, but I am not sure.

God be good to you,

Mick

Actually, the chanter he made, and that I have, is a very sweet sounding chanter. It is not particularly loud, and has a lovely tone.

In October I spent a day with Mark. He was dead into remodeling his shop. It is in the garage at the house (his mother's) he lives in. A stone building, with a slate roof. His shop has a wonderful Mylford (M7, I believe) and all the tools. Mark gave me an incredible deal on one of his chanters, and ...

Brian, the context of my post wasn't to say that you are "the bad guy", or even that you are not justified in your anger. What I do want you to see is that whatever validity there is to your complaints, is being lost by your not very subtle attempts to malign one of the most valuable asset...

Brian......your experience is as important.....as you have told us.....and told us.......and told us........and told us........and told us.......and told us.......and told us......and told us..... Does the equine corpse have any meaning for you? You go beyond "informing", and it is apparen...

I see the set is no longer listed for sale. I am curious who got them, and if they would mind posting the repair/restoration process here. It would be a very good learning experience for all of us. I would like to know what price, (personal message is fine), what had to be done, how difficult it was...

Oh, and by the way, Mark has a new shop that he was finishing up when I visited him in October. It is a wonderful shop, set in an old fieldstone garage with a slate roof. Mark rebuilt the shop and is setting up to start building again. He showed me the legacy set he is building for his little son. A...

Nope, I am not sure when he made it. He was doing me a kindness when he sold it to me. I had picked up a chanter from an unknown maker and his card was in the stuff I got with the chanter. I called Mark to ask him to reed it. I sent it to him, and he suggested that I send it to Benedict. He also sai...

I own a stick made by Mark Hillman. It plays and sounds wonderful. Benedict Koehler reeded it for me and was full of praise for it, concluding (when told what Mark charged me for it) that I had gotten a very, very good deal. I have played to penny chanters. One made from a kit by a local piper, and ...

James Connelly (I love that name......James Conn o lly is a personal hero of mine)...... forget how old you are. Just play the damn pipes. I felt the same way when I started at the age of 50. One of the advantages us old dogs have is that we are already familiar with the genre. You simply have to fr...

Thanks for that very good report, Paul. Your review of the set explained something that my inexperience did not spot. In my first look at the set, I couldn't keep from hitting the regulator keys when I was playing. But I have never had more than a half set to play before, so I didn't realize the key...

I also posted this query to the Uilleann Listserve. The responses so far seem to indicate a couple of things. First, this wood would probably be fine for a chanter. It should be relatively bright. One of the responders provided this info: " It is quite dense (790 Kg/m^3, with blackwood at 1250 ...

Has anyone used a wood called African Purple Heart ? I saw at a local supplier and it is a very dense and straight grained wood. The supplier said that it turns wonderfully. I was taken by the unique coloring. It is a shade of purple. You would have to see it, but I imagined turning a set with silve...

And hang out here, my friend. I am so proud of this place. You ask for help and no one gets smart, rather they just help. Thanks to all for being so forthcoming with help for those of us who are learning.
