Re: Things get dicy in the pub--which ITM'ers have your back?

I'm about to test for my 4th degree black belt, I might be able to help out in a dust up.

There's also John and William Neal, the earliest surviving Irish tune book. It was published in facsimile, but is really (really) hard to find now. The Joyce collection from the mid-1800's is good, too, with some annotations in it as to whence the tunes came. And, of course, the complete works of O...

The Reviol is a large-holed large-bore Rudall-inspired design IIRC. The low C#/C keys are like the ones on Boehm flutes and play just like them. Can't say much about the sound of the low notes since I tested it only once in a loud pub when I met Maurice last fall, and my own eight-keyed Reviol is s...

Gosh, that would make one of my largest struggles float away.
LOL!

Btw, just translated your signature. Very nice. :D

Re: Dental Problems :-( (Moan)

Truth be told, I lost several teeth, and it has been suggested that the muscles called upon to play a transverse flute could adversely weaken one's teeth, or the rooting thereof. Then again, teeth do not an embouchure make, and perhaps teeth could only impede one's airstream, eh? ;-) Could be they ...

Not discounting the fact that an experienced (pro) player probably treats the flute differently as regards to care, I wonder if there is something akin to how violins play better the more you play them. There is a theory that the varnish in a violin (Especially with Strads, nobody is totally sure ho...

*bump* Sorry for hijacking your thread Tommy, but I simply have to bump it. ;) Maurice finished work on my eight-keyed Satiné flute and uploaded some photos to his website. http://www.reviol.co.nz/HTML/Thumbnails.html It's the one in the first row... Phneh. Re: Is a tuning slide "meant" to have a propoer po

You're just being argumentative, and you know full well that when someone knows they play sharp or flat consistently, the answer is to correct the problem with one's playing technique, rather than to start yanking the tuning slide way in or out. But then you just like to disagree with me. Loren Act...

Re: Dental Problems :-( (Moan)

Just over two weeks so far, and I still cannot play the flute for more than a couple of minutes! Top front incisor - implant - infection in the bone - operation to cut infected bone out - couldn't recognize myself in the mirror - healing of bone and gum... It all takes time - too much! I've even be...

I prefer to have some dots for the basic learning and use Amazing Slow Downer for the details. I copied 'Out on the ocean' from Martin Hayes' playing just to find out that - after a year or two - it had changed into my own version. Again, I lack what I need most: time and patience. I'm right there ...
