Yes I do!
I'd have to change my avatar if I didn't.

Re: A comparison between Blackwood and Cocuswood
OMG I love this topic! Wow! It's back AGAIN! I have to say that one thing is certainly clear to me . . . our expectations of difference in sound REALLY color our impressions of the timbers. And their timbres. I can't help but think that the relative dimensional stability of blackwood, in addition to...

Re: Pewter plug care?
Yeah, I haven't oiled them that I can remember and they play well, and I do enjoy the clackety clack. I just thought maybe I should be doing something more. Meh. How do you take the pins out, do you have rubber-shod needle-nosed pliers? I need me a set of them. I ought to take the keys off several i...

Pewter plug care?
Hey! Wow, it's been like a bamillion bajillion years since I posted anything. How's tricks, people? Is there anything special I'm supposed to be doing with pewter footjoint plugs, as far as care goes? Little bit of oil to help them seal if they need it? Take them off and clean the hole/plate every s...

Re: Cleaning ivory?
Well, my goodness.
No bleach for you!
Thanks for the information.
Though . . . does it apply to mammoth ivory as well? I'm going to assume it does.

Cleaning ivory?
Anyone have any tips for cleaning mammoth ivory? I have some mammoth ivory rings (on a flute, but I post here because I think more pipes have ivory than flutes) that got a little discolored from the lining of the case. Blue dye, I'm guessing. Would it be OK to dab bleach on the ring carefully with a...

Slide repair . . . Wilkes
Hey Chiffers! Question for you. I have a ver' nahss Wilkes C flute , which I dearly love. Recently, when we had our beloved hurricane , I didn't play anything for a few weeks. When I went back to aforementioned flute, the slide had stuck. I got it unstuck. I was exceedingly happy I got it unstuck. N...

That's why I said minimal . I agree with you completely. It's why flutes sound the way they do after they're oiled: you smooth out the bore. Other things (like the embouchure) have a much larger role in how a flute sounds. And by that, I mean the player's more than the cut of the instrument's. As to...

I haven't posted in months, but since I happened to look today and saw that Gordon responded to this thread, I think I have to as well. Red lancewood is the bomb. Beautiful timber with the accoustic properties of cocus but less care. If you look through the flute pics page, you'll see a flute of min...

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Far be it from me to criticize someone who's made his own pipes! I don't think you need to worry about the chanter/drones/stocks cracking in your UP. My opinion is that most the cracking we see in woodwinds has to do with blowing 100%RH breath by dry wood. The other cracking, I bet, has...

Almond oil can definitely behave the way you're describing. I actually am not a huge fan of it; I have had it gum up keywork to the point that I have to take all the keys off (a flute), clean them with strong ethanol, and put the instrument back together. This behavior seems worse when it's very hum...
